How not to commit suicide.

The Defense budget in 2000 was $291 Billion dollars. By 2007 it had risen to $439 Billion. The 2007 number does not including the cost of the war against Afghanastan or the occupation of Iraq.

Nothing we do politically will make any difference in reviving America until we reduce our military spending by a huge amount of money - I would suggest that a reduction of 75% would be inadequate. If we do not reduce our insane level of spending on the military it will be the death of this nation.

1. You are so right...

triillions squandered on "security" and "defense". Our future is rapidly disappearing in front of our eyes. Shrubya says the economy has nothing to do with the war...we are in deep deep shit.

2. The US is officially now a military-spending junkie

Too many local economies rely on it, and the bullets have to get used somewhere.

6. we need to end this war and use the budget for one year to pay for the soldiers we have broken

then we need to rebuild the infrastructure of the military. Then we can turn down the money valve that has been gushing out of control.

If we shold NEED the military to respond to a disaster or something else, we will see AGAIN how unprepared we are.

You know, for a group of people who like to pretend they're all special and unique they have this unfathomable need to be just like everyone else. Such originality over there.

Is anyone surprised?  A liberal's solution to any financial issue is: Gut the military!  Oh, we support our troops, just not the war... and we show it by calling for a 75% reduction in military spending.  If we're out-spending Holland on defense, it's WAY too much.   ::)  :loser:

If Bill Clinton had not spent eight years trying to cripple the military while using up its existing resources, no huge spending increase would have been required.  If Bill Clinton had left things alone there would not have been a big spike in defense spending for DUmmies to bitch about.  The budget would have stayed constant.

It is natural for a republican president who follows a democrat administration to be forced to repair the US military.  The children break it.  The grown ups get it fix.

And, hey DUmbasses, 160 of those countries get to spend less on defense BECAUSE WE ARE THEIR DEFENSE PLAN.  It frees them to spend on socialism.  You DUmbasses should be thrilled and calling for MORE spending (if you weren't hypocrites of the first order).

where's the chart showing ALL of the Federal spending? You know, the ones with the entitlements listed too?

And is this what the DUmmie is using? http://www.warresisters.org/piechart.htm because it says that these figures DO NOT include SS. Hmmm....I'm no accountant or have a firm understanding of govt accounting/spending, but that doesn't sound right.

and there's this -

Quote
“Global War on Terror” $200 billion [We added $162 billion to the last item to supplement the Budget’s grossly underestimated $38 billion in “allowances” to be spent in 2009 for the “War on Terror,” which includes the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan]
:whatever: I guess they know better than the govt....

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
