Former EBay Chief Executive Meg Whitman joined the race for governor of California this morning, setting off a battle between Silicon Valley moguls for the 2010 Republican nomination.

Whitman, 52, has never run for public office, but is banking that Californians will see her corporate background as just what the state needs to break its chronic cycle of fiscal disasters.

"California faces challenges unlike any other time in its history -- a weak and faltering economy, massive job losses, and an exploding state budget deficit," Whitman said in a written statement. "California is better than this, and I refuse to stand by and watch it fail."

Whitman's chief rival for the party nomination is state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, also a high-tech tycoon. Another Republican exploring a run is a former Silicon Valley congressman, Tom Campbell, now an economics professor at UC Berkeley.

I think Meg would be great!  I supported her for McCain's VP, wonder if she would have made a difference in that outcome?

Agreed...unfortunately some thought her not visually appealing enough...odd when you consider oh...hilary or the current first lady.

Meg's just your average business woman type as far as looks goes. She's smart as a whip.

California needs a little whipping into shape, but by the time 2010 is over, there may not be much left to whip.

That and the idiots in SF and LA will ensure that one of the idiot 'Rats gets the job anyway.  Arnie has officially KILLED any chance of the GOP taking a serious run at state offices in CA for the forseeable future.

She is pro-AWB and pistol restrictions for citizens.

So are a great many CA citizens.

Unfortunately.

Some folks have no respect for the BOR.

As long as LA and SF libs control such a large voting block, the state will never be solvent.  It will end up being one big New Orleans.  The folks that live out away from the coast, the conservative part of the state are truly screwed.  Never mind the states close by.  After CA becomes insolvent, all those people wanting free handouts will move somewere that still has the means to provide.  Arizona is becoming californiaized, never mind the pacific NW.

You see, I don't care you how feel.  I really don't.  More importantly, neither does anyone else.  Only about 200 people on a planet of 7 billion actually care about your feelings, and that's if you're lucky.  The sooner you grasp this lesson, the better off you will be.  And since almost no one gives a damn what you do, say, think, or feel, appealing to your feelings when you encounter differences of opinion is not only illogical, but useless.
