I got an 89 but some of the questions were very difficult to answer. The one about taking care of the elderly and poor for instance. My grandmother is 90. She has been told her entire adult life that if she put money in Social Security, it would provide her a retirement income. I don't think it's right or compassionate to pull the rug out from under the elderly because I think SS is a bust. Better to reform it for future generations. I also don't think children who have no control over their lives should suffer because of their parents. Just because mom is a loser doesn't mean the kid should go hungry or not have antibiotics for strep throat or an ear infection. I also believe society has an obligation to step in when a child is being abused. So on this issue I chose 5. For people who love nuance they didn't provide a lot of gray area.

The other question I found particularly tough was the one about whether churches should be about "social justice" (whatever the **** that is) or promoting anti-homosexual, anti-abortion views. The first amendment guarantees freedom of worship. It's not my place (or anyone else) to dictate church doctrine for the whole friggin' country. If someone wants to attend a church where Jesus is a socialist or that has a gay priest it's none of my business. I prefer a more Bible-based church, but that's just me. So that one I had to answer neutral as well. I know what they were fishing for...the correct (i.e. progressive) answer would fall more towards the social justice end rather than the abortion kills babies side, but IMO the first amendment trumps whatever personal feelings I have about what a church should be. Their aim with the question wasn't a constitutional interpretation but it's the only one I felt comfortable considering. Of course, these are the people who consider the Bill of Rights a document of "negative" rights (I still haven't figured that one out) so I guess it's too much to expect questions that don't reflect liberal dogma rather than constitutional principles. They're so predictable.

Personally I think that Christian churches should place worshiping God and teaching about him above anything else, but that might just be me :p

Well, that's precisely my point. Freedom of religion guarantees that you can *personally* choose the church that worships according to your beliefs. OTOH, you can't *personally* choose a church for me. If my worship includes dancing naked around the oak tree in my yard I can do that. You can certainly think I'm wrong, a heretic, going to hell, etc., but you can't prevent me from worshiping that way. The cool thing about the Constitution is, it's deeply rooted in the concept of free will.

I answered looking at the absolute basic root level of the questions they were asking and answering that way.  If it was a leading question I looked at the basic principal behind it and responded to THAT rather than to what they were phrasing.
yup.  And often I agreed with the sentiments of the question - but they had GOVERNMENT in there where as if they had said SOCIETY I would have voted the other way.  Ya know?

It's nuts. The site's quiz is basically asking for more government and skewing questions like that.
And that my friend is what being a progressive is all about.  THEY know best and you are willing to use the government to force everyone into compliance with what THEY know to be best for us.

Of course it is, but to say that Church should be about caring for the poor or for being against abortion is a false issue.  Christian churches should be about serving God, which would encompass caring for the poor as well as protecting the defenseless.

Hey, the troll (aka me) got a 30. Ha ha ha!
Hey everyone! It's Amanda! I was pretty active at mt.org (as TGRlvr61502) before the fateful election and was invited over by Kev, but lost the link and had forgotten about this place until I got the email about the big mod dilemma. Glad to be back!
