You know, if I'd seen a psychiatrist, and s/he had recommended that I take it...

Then I would have...

Otherwise, no...

I'd rather try to find out what was causing the unhappiness, and take care of it that way...

But that's just me...

 I've read that some people who are also taking Prozac felt really good the first week they were on it but then its effects wore off. I've read that it takes a few weeks for it to work, but to me, it seemed to work almost instantly.

I have no idea if it was a placebo effect or what.

It'd be interesting to find out.

 them to my girlfriend though. She has been on all of those drugs (paxil etc) and still struggles from time to time.

One of the great secrets to life I have learned recently, and it sounds really stupid but it is true and works is that if I want to be happy, I just have to choose to be happy.

While it is true that there is always stuff to not like and worry about, the opposite is also true.

You know, working out has a lot of the same benefits as a 'happy pill' assuming there are not serious mental health issues. When I make sure to do it regularly, I feel good even with moods, during pms--the worst time for me. It's not a cureall, but I wonder how many of those on DU sit on their ample hineys everyday and don't get more movement then to the bathroom, kitchen, and desk? And how many are isolated by their views they can't help but share? That crap will depress anyone.
