A Good Fix for Red Wasps ??
« on: September 24, 2008, 06:25:28 PM »
Having recently moved back to Texas, it seems as if most of the normal wasp killer just doesn't work. Does anybody know something that DOES work against these abominable creatures ??

Yes, but it takes time.  Had zillions of them around my house.  Put up 3 wasp traps and got 99% of them.  You can get them at Home Depot or Lowes.  It's a plastic bag, open a the top with a phermone (sp?) attractant at the top.  They land on the top of the bag, fall in, and can't figure out how to get back out.  Spectacide makes a good wasp killer (kills on contact), but the cans don't last very long and aren't cheap.

You can use dish washing liquid.  Put it in a glass of water, it doesn't have to be very much soap, and stir it up.  Once you have that you can either spray it on the wasps or simply 'throw' it up on them.  It knocks them down FAST and will kill them but I usually just step on them when they fall down.  Lot of satisfaction in a firm crunch.

I used a can of Ortho Pro Select for a paper wasp nest on my house and a BIG hornet's nest out behind my backyard this year. It took them out easily.

Find the nest.

Obtain a can of that aerosol spray on engine degreaser.

Cigarette lighter.

Point and shoot.

Climb above the nest, either in a tree or use a ladder. Unzip your pants and urinate on the nest. It doesn't kill them but it sure pisses them off....be sure you have an escape route..... :-)
