BEND, Ore. (KPTV) — Five people are dead, including the shooter, after a shooting Thursday at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, police said.

Bend Police Chief said during an afternoon briefing that the first call came from a driver at 12:59 p.m. who said someone with a long rifle had shot at him while he was in his car.

Three children, ages 5, 8 and 11, and one teacher were killed, police said. The fifth person dead is the shooter, bringing the total to five. Police said the families of all of those who died have been notified.

The suspected shooter was shot and killed by a community member who pursued him into the school, the chief said. Police identified the suspect as a 16-year-old boy from Bend. His name has not yet been released.

A "community member" took the murderer out, so no SRO. Does OR ban SROs?

Once again, anti-gun laws - schools are "gun-free zones" - did not hinder a person bent on committing murder. How unsurprising.

Had this happened in Portland or Eugene, the local prosecutor would be seriously considering prosecuting the "community member" for violating the "gun-free zone". Or if (s)he has a concealed-carry permit, revoking it. I wish I were joking.

He saw, acted, and ended the threat
Thank goodness some men and women in the ever-more-woke Bend, Oregon still conceal and carry guns.

If a man who saw the armed 16-year-old boy armed with a long gun shoot his way through the locked door into Silver Rail Elementary School hadn't acted immediately, many more innocents would have been killed on Thursday.

The Deschutes County Sheriffs made it crystal clear in a news conference Thursday night that the Good Samaritan heard the shooting, saw the threat, and acted to end that killer before deputies even got there.

That's the way it's done, America.

Three babies, ages 11, 8, and 5, and a teacher were killed by the 16-year-old mass murderer. Two others, a 7-year-old and a 54-year-old teacher, were critically injured and are hospitalized.

Things were horrific enough, but how many lives did that good guy with a gun save? Perhaps dozens.

My emphasis, a couple of additional details, that the school was locked and that the man who took out the murderer saw the murderer shoot the locked door open.

Local Outlet Identifies Hero Who Took Out Oregon School Shooter

Channel2 NOW reported Friday that “Kaylub Giamanco has been identified as the bystander who reportedly confronted and shot the teenage suspect during the deadly shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School.” The outlet explained that it confirmed details about Giamanco after speaking with his relative. The deceased victims of the shooting include children ages five, eight, and 11. ...

The New York Post referred to Giamanco as a “girl dad” and said he was on his school break when he heard gunshots and rushed to confront the teenage shooter, John J. Griffin. Giamanco did not wish to speak with reporters himself because, despite his heroism, he feels devastated and guilty that he was not able to stop the shooter before anyone died. Therefore, his brother spoke to the press instead.

Channel2 NOW indicated that Giamanco’s children were at the school where the shooting occurred but did not identify them as victims.

The only reason to be worried for this brave man is that apparently many Oregon districts have a strict policy of not allowing concealed carry weapons on school property, even if the weapon carrier has a valid permit, as Giamanco did. This leads some people to worry that woke idiots in Oregon will take out their frustrations at the shooting on Giamanco, charging him with a crime.

Sadly the US does not lack Progs who would scream, "How dare you save lives by bringing a gun into a gun-free zone?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

The bystander has not been publicly identified by police, although the New York Times reported that he was the father of two young girls who attend the school.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek said at the press conference that the bystander “heroically intervened to stop further loss of life.”

Beyond those killed, a 7-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher were taken to hospital with critical injuries.

It was not clear if the shooter had any prior connection to the school, which has about 450 students from kindergarten through the fifth grade, roughly ages 5 to 11, and 40 staff members.

The New York Times and other outlets, citing unnamed law enforcement officials, identified the teenager as John J. Griffin II, and investigators searched his home and seized electronic devices. They believe he used a 12-gauge pump-action Maverick 88 shotgun in the attack, which police say is registered to his mother, the Times reported.

Most of the rest of this Reuters article, before and after what I quoted, is standard MSM anti-gun . The article, unsurprisingly, does not mention that OR's anti-gun laws did not hinder the killer, nor that the father who took out the killer had to violate OR's anti-gun laws to save the lives even Goobernor Kotek admitted he saved. But the articles adds details to the picture.

Oregon school shooter identified, used shotgun bought by mother, sources say

The attacker used a shotgun purchased by his mother, law enforcement sources told CBS News. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said Friday that a Maverick 88 pump-action 12-gauge shotgun was located near the suspect, as well as a backpack. Krantz said that three types of ammunition were used in the shooting: birdshot, buckshot and slugs.

The suspect fired as many as 15 rounds, Krantz said Friday, and another 44 remaining rounds of ammunition were located at the scene.

A motive for the attack has not been provided. Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent Steven Cook said in Friday's news conference that the classroom where the shooting occurred was a special needs classroom, and he disclosed that the suspect had been a special needs student at that school.

In 2020, the suspect's mother, Shauntai Nickerson, spoke to a local television station about her then-10-year-old son, who she said had special needs and struggled to learn from home during the pandemic. She told KTVZ, "It'll be great for my son to get back in there and get the help that he needs with the skilled teachers that he needs to get it from."

Krantz said the suspect approached the fence of the school on foot, threw the shotgun over the fence, and then climbed it himself.

Krantz said that the suspect forced his way into the school by firing several rounds into the glass panes of a set of double doors. He then went directly into the classroom immediately to the left of those doors, where he opened fire.

"All of the victims were shot in that classroom," Krantz said.

Krantz also praised the "heroic actions" of a teacher who engaged the suspect in the physical struggle, saying she "threw her cellphone at the suspect and then tackled him and fought to take the firearm from him."

That teacher, who was not hurt, "almost certainly helped prevent more bloodshed," Krantz said.

Two other victims were seriously wounded in the attack — a 7-year-old girl and a 54-year-old teacher. The child was being treated at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, where she was in serious but stable condition, Krantz said Friday. The teacher, identified to CBS News by her family as Becky Drury, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Krantz said. She was being treated at St. Charles Medical Center.

Someone with actual knowledge is free to set me straight, but except at crazy-close range, I don't think "birdshot" would be fatal. Unless killer-scum just grabbed shells randomly, choosing birdshot sounds like infliction of pain was intended.

Kaylub Giamanco was on his lunch break when he heard gunshots at his daughter’s school. He didn’t hesitate for a second, but rushed to the school with his own weapon, found the shooter, and killed him. Then he called his mother, and she shared what he told her after his heroic action.

Of course, the experience was incredibly traumatic for Giamanco, not only because he had to kill someone at point-blank range, while unsure if his girls were okay, but because he is wrongly blaming himself for not getting to the shooter before the crazed teenager killed three children and a teacher. Giamanco called up his mother right after the shooting. “He said, ‘Mom, I just shot and killed somebody.’ I said, ‘Kaylub, tell me about it.’ And he said, ‘A man went into my daughters’ school and, um... shot kids.’ And he said, ‘and I looked at him point-blank, and I shot and killed him, Mom.’ I told him he saved a lot of lives, and he said, ‘Mom, I couldn't save them all.’”

So he pulled up onto the grass, grabbed his gun and basically stalked the gunman back into the school. And he crawled through a window that the gunman had shot out. He army-crawled through the window. It's tough, because I'm... while I'm thankful that my babies are okay, there are babies that are not. And that's, um, that's hard to swallow, 'cause my heart goes out to those families that didn't get to bring their babies home.”

Giamanco is also “having a hard time with it. Again, you know, the idea of not being able to save them all, right? So when he closes his eyes and the things that he thinks about, what could I have done differently? How could I have done it better?” Freeman added.

When the shots rang out at Silver Rail Elementary in the Central Oregon town of Bend, the 6'0" tall 16-year-old, for some reason, went back to the special ed classroom where he spent time as a student and blasted children and a teacher with a shotgun. He killed four and shot a sweet girl in the face who was confined to a wheelchair. She's still fighting for her life in a Bend hospital — along with others.

A father of two students, who had no idea if his own babies were alive or dead, followed that sick person into the school and ended him. That's a good thing. As tragic as this is, I'm glad that sick dog is out of the gene pool.

As Kaylub Giamanco followed the gunman, or as ABC News calls him, a "boy" — a  6-foot "boy" reportedly weighing in at a buck-40 — otherwise known as my goal weight — an as-yet unidentified teacher had jumped that sick dog of a human and was attempting to wrest away his shotgun.

Giamanco ended the teacher's struggle with the killer.

Both are heroes. But she would have been a dead hero if that good dad with the gun hadn't shown up to END THE THREAT — something that would have been tough against even a lightweight who likely had a height advantage. ...

What an incredibly brave thing she did. There isn't punctuation enough to impart my unbridled and unabashed respect for that lady. You go, girl, doesn't begin to cover it. She's a damned hero. I honor her.

That teacher, in the timeline sense, ended the killer-scum's spree, but without Giamanco that probably would have been just a pause.

Things have gotten even darker, if that's imaginable, in the Oregon school shooting case.

Authorities investigating the rampage in Bend, Ore., last week are exploring whether the 16-year-old mass murderer may have been motivated by connections to an online nihilistic, satanic sex cult.

The former special education student at Silver Rail Elementary School shot his way through a school-shooter deterrent door and killed three children, ages 5, 7, and 11, and a 25-year-old teacher. Another child who was confined to a wheelchair was shot in the face and remains, along with an adult, in the hospital.

Right after the shooting, investigators converged on Griffin J. John II's family home, confiscating his personal items, including his electronics.

Independent reporter Andy Ngo and the Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) now report that investigators are following leads to determine if John's was associated with the notorious 764 cult.

Federal authorities have prioritized prosecutions of the leaders of this cult, which they describe as "an international child exploitation enterprise known as '764,' a nihilistic violent extremist (NVE) network."

The group has the objective of "seeking to destroy civilized society through the corruption and exploitation of vulnerable populations, which often include minors. Woke Oregonians are more worried about how the 16-year-old got the gun rather than how the hate in his heart overwhelmed and motivated him to use violence against innocents.

I'm not sure this connection has been proven, though investigators may know more than they've made public.
