The Fake News Media Have Found Their New 'Iran Hoax' and This One Is a Whopper

Here we go again — another case of the fake news media taking a rhetorical flourish by the President of the United States as an invitation to America’s enemies.

A few remarks from President Donald Trump's rally in Nebraska have kicked off a media feeding frenzy, complete with accusations that the commander in chief wants Iran to attack two American cities.

The problem? That is not at all what the president said. Not even close. And it’s actually delusional to argue otherwise, as will be explained.

The controversy comes from Trump's Monday rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, where he was talking about the economic costs of the Iran war and arguing that temporarily higher prices were a relatively small cost compared with the national-security threat that would be posed by a nuclear-armed Iran.

The relevant portion of Trump's speech from https://www.rev.com/transcripts/trump-rally-in-nebraska-on-10-05-26 :

She got killed even by the Democrats on that one. Can you imagine Kamala? She's about two years late. She said, Did you hear that? She said, "We have to make the election too big to rig." I said, "I can't believe she..." She stole my line. She stole a lot of things that didn't work out too well. But I want to see a tremendous victory. You want to see a tremendous victory because it verifies all the things we did. And again, remember with the word just artificial, it's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay and it's going to be over with very soon. It's essentially almost over with and they might keep going a little long.

Because of Trump's meandering stream-of-consciousness style of speechifying, the context of this faux-controversial remark was a few minutes earlier:

Man, it's been incredible, but we're going to have that over with. Then oil is going to come down lower than it was before. I was in Iowa, a state you like, slightly competitive with you, slightly competitive. But I was there just before I decided, I said, "We have to do something. We have to go and stop this threat of having really the world's worst..." Look, this is a group of people, the absolute worst. "We have to stop them from having a nuclear weapon." So I was riding in Iowa. I made a speech there and I passed a gas station $1.95 a gallon. I passed another station $1.85 a gallon. We'll have it lower than that in a very short period of time. [inaudible 00:06:26] But together we've been fighting to save America from all of the corrupt and sinister forces that want to destroy it. Even when you talk about the war, we knocked out their navy, we knocked out their air force, we knocked out their leadership, we knocked out everything. We knocked out their leaders. We knocked out their radar. We knocked out their anti-aircraft. We take over the Strait of Hormuz, and we read stories like in the fake New York Times that Iran is doing quite well. ...

Agree with the alternatives Trump presented - temporary high gas prices or Iran being able to threaten even US cities with nuclear holocaust - he clearly was not inviting or suggesting allowing Iran to nuke LA or San Diego.

IOW, the Dems and their running-dog MSM-shills are lying by quoting out of context, standard practice for 11 1/4 years and counting.

The new “very fine people/drink bleach” hoax.

Back in summer-fall 2015, I was not sure Trump was a serious candidate for the Presidency, so it was a few months before I decided to check claims of "racist" comments in Trump speeches. The accusations were not consistent with the few things I had seen of Trump on TV. I finally gleaned date and venue info for a couple of the speeches and found transcripts. I was not particularly surprised to find that the MSM were pretzellating Trump's statements to make their false accusations. "Very fine people" and "drink bleach" were further examples of Dems' and their running-dog MSM shills' SOP: take Trump comments and pretzellate them into false accusations.

The media is losing it over Trump's 'take out' LA remark | Opinion

Whether you're a Republican or Democrat, if you read this headline from The New York Times, you'd be appalled at President Donald Trump's seemingly callous comments about the Iran war and high gas prices: "Fury in California After Trump Suggests Iran ‘Take Out’ L.A. or San Diego."

Like California Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Democratic Party, you might be filled with righteous indignation and conclude that Trump deserves every bit of the backlash. How could a president talk like this about two of America's great cities?

His actual words don't sound much better. "They can take out a city. Let them take, let them take out Los Angeles; let them take out San Diego," Trump said of the Iran war at an Oct. 5 campaign rally in Grand Island, Nebraska. "This is a very small price to pay, and it’s going to be over with very soon. It’s essentially almost over with."

But you'd be wrong.

Trump did talk about high gas prices driven by the Iran war – and he did say those words. But context matters. His phrasing was clumsy, but he has never so much as hinted that he wants a foreign power to attack our homeland. He went to war with Iran to stop it from getting a nuclear weapon and to deter future attacks.

That hasn't stopped Democrats and liberal media outlets from running headlines and social media clips stripped of context to smear him. Their reaction to these comments reveals a bizarre eagerness to spread a nasty, false narrative.

TBH, I'm surprised by this. Surprised that USA Torday would publish this article, and that it was a USA Today staff writer, not a CYA-compatible "guest" opinion writer. Credit where credit is earned.
