Poll: Third of Dems 'Positive' With Trump Assassination, Majority Back Coup

A recent survey of Democrat voters reveals striking levels of support for unconventional and extraconstitutional methods of removing President Donald Trump from office before the end of his term, including a military takeover and, for a significant minority, assassination.

The poll, conducted by the Center for Strategic Politics in partnership with Liberal Currents, surveyed 683 Democrat voters voters Sept. 3 and Sept. 8-10.

Respondents were asked how they would feel if they woke up to specific news headlines describing Trump leaving office early.

The Center for Strategic Politics characterized the results as showing that a plurality of Democrats supported four of the five scenarios tested.

The left is willing to assassinate President Donald Trump. The enemy is within, not foreign.

A quarter of American adults — including 44% of self-identified Democrats — say they support the use of force to prevent President Donald Trump from being president, according to a new survey's findings described by University of Chicago political scientist Robert Pape.

Pape is also warning that the 2026 midterm elections could produce a level of political violence not seen in the U.S. in decades — and, under a worst-case scenario, could become "the most violent election in American history."

"We haven't seen this level of violence, political violence, since the 1960s," Pape said in a recent interview.

Pape is director of the Chicago Project on Security and Threats, or CPOST, which has been tracking Americans' attitudes toward political violence since 2021.
