Our local assisted living community Hickory Villa 7315 Hickory st... is closing its doors unexpectedly after the out-of-state ownership group decided to pull all of their operations out of Nebraska. This sudden closure has left 49 vulnerable residents—all seniors aged 55 and older on Medicaid—with just a 30-day notice to completely relocate. Because of strict corporate regulations during this closure process, our staff members are unfortunately prohibited from physically helping residents pack or box up their belongings. While some residents have family members step in to help, many do not have any local support system. We are turning to our community for urgent assistance to ensure our residents can move with dignity. We are looking for help with the following: Packing Supplies: Donations of sturdy cardboard boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, moving blankets, and permanent markers. If you have extra supplies to drop off or if you are willing to volunteer your time to help a senior pack, please reach out to us 402-392-0767

*** update*** I have had alot of calls and donations and volunteers!! Thank you. We have about 10 more residents to find places for. I will know by Friday move out dates so then we can try to plan packers and needs next. This is what the next door app is for! I couldn't convince a relative that private equity buyouts in retirement villages could mean HOA and monthly maintenance jumping hard, like from $150 to $600. But it happens, and now look at this OP. Leaving elders vulnerable. Corporate greed indeed.

Free stuff is worth every penny.

Examining how gooberment contributes to costs of care would be more fruitful than empty ignorant virtue-signaling about corporate "greed". But that might lessen gooberment power and would require work.
