ICE agents haven't even received their new electric gloves yet, and the outrage machine is already humming.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to spend up to $20 million on thousands of G.L.O.V.E. devices by March. The name stands for Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter. From the Associated Press:

Civil rights advocates expressed alarm at the plan, saying ICE officers already face criticism for their use of force with little oversight or accountability while enforcing President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Compliant Technologies says the devices function as a normal pair of patrol gloves until officers press a switch to activate their electrical mode. The gloves must be applied directly to someone’s skin to deliver a pain stimulus that typically helps an officer gain compliance within seconds, according to the company.

Agents wear them as normal patrol gloves until activating an electrical function designed to gain control of a resisting person through direct skin contact.

It's an idea that deserves a fair look; an agent wrestling with a combative suspect needs options. A firearm brings deadly force; a Taser can miss, fail to penetrate clothing, or create other complications.

"Civil Rights" groups are not objecting to the gloves per se, they are objecting to ICE officers having an additional non-lethal and effective means of subduing an arrestee resisting arrest or someone assaulting ICE officers. A practical example where this device might have enabled a different outcome would be Alex Pretti's attack on the ICE officers arresting an illegal. Had they been able to subdue him, shots might never have been fired and Pretti would not be ICE-Hater's faux-martyr.

"Civil Rights" groups consistently object to and try to obstruct effective policing. It's what they do. Real civil rights groups and people understand that crime violates normale people's lives.

I hope any officer issued those understands they will be scrutinized under an electron microscope should they use them. I'm leery for the potential for abuse, but I am also absolutely certain there will be false accusations.

Well, unless Dems succeeded in blocking the funding, ICE officers will be wearing body cams and their vehicles will have dash (and tailgate?) cams. Some race-baiters have denounced those cameras as racist because of how often they disprove the race-baiters false accusations.

The poutrage over this continues on FB. I just posted this in response to one such Trump-Hater moron who tried, "We spend money on the shock gloves but not on supplying the USS Abraham Lincoln" (another current Prog faux scandal):

In real life: 1. the gloves are a non-lethal measure for use when arrestees resist or bystanders attack the law enforcement officers; 2. the US Navy mastered and has carried out underway replenishment for well over 80 years; 3. The USS Abraham Lincoln has been deployed for about 9 months, the average deployment time for USN carrier since Obama's first term; 4. The Abraham Lincoln is about to be replaced by USS George Washington, as was planned months ago (just as USS George H. W. Bush replaced the USS Gerald R. Ford after its 11 month deployment).
