My daughter-in-law is an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) nurse at a major hospital.

During Covid hers was the unit where scores of critically ill patients were sent to be kept alive and made as comfortable as possible before the increasingly inevitable end. Approximately 90% of the patients she lost were unvaccinated.
She particularly recalls holding a cell phone to a patient's head in order to allow him a chance to say goodbye, and as he lay dying, to gasp out "I love you" to family members.

She has earned the right to criticize Anthony Fauci should she choose to do so, but in fact, she regards him as a hero.

On the other hand, Rand Paul and his coterie of partisan Republican toadies on the Senate Homeland Security Committee have earned nothing whatsoever, other than a need to sit the **** down down and shut the **** up

This -tale is either false or likely to have been in winter 2020-2021.

The DU OP leaves out the time frame. In winter 2020-2021, many/most hospitalized with Covid did die. Part of what the DU OP left out is that Covid vaccines were not authorized until mid-December 2020, 3 or 4 weeks into the winter.

While the Feds distributed vaccines efficiently TO states, many states, who due to Federalism had the responsibility to organize and carry out distribution WITHIN states, were very inefficient and slow (California was among the worst). Most/all states also initially restricted vaccinations by age, 70 or 75 being typical minimum ages. By California regs, I was not allowed to be vaccinated until March 2021. I got and was hospitalized with Covid in January 2021.

What makes me suspicious that this -tale is -fiction is that there was a similar, fictional, tale circulating a few years ago by a supposed nurse to the effect that unvaccinated Covid patients on ventilators gasped out their last breath saying they wish they had gotten vaccinated. The supposed nurse was found to be lying about what she did, and person on a ventillator would being unable to speak, because they would be intubated. This DU makes the nurse unidentifiable, and avoids the intubation problem. Honesty not being common in DU -tales, I'd put that chances of this being -fiction at 75%-80%.
