Der Fuehrer announced at last minute he is shutting down basically all of downtown DC tonite thru midnight Sunday for his gladiator brawls.

Previous occupants of White House and all other DC traffic restrictions were announced 2-3 weeks in advance.

Ms Average Old Guy taken to ER yesterday, admitted with pneumonia. I’m depending on family who live on Capitol Hill to help but now they must hurry back home right now and can’t help otherwise they cannot get back home due to street closures.

Platner has become quite effective at rallying support and raising money for Democrats during this cycle. He also comes with a lot of baggage, including a Nazi tattoo, a sexting scandal, graphic social media posts, and allegations of domestic abuse. Additionally, these are just the issues Democrats have uncovered. They haven’t even touched on what Republicans have found out about him. Sadly, Democrats seem unconcerned if their candidate is a Nazi, as long as he vows to fight Trump, nuke the Supreme Court, and pursue a host of extreme actions that could make our Constitution unworkable, which is by design (via NBC News):

Controlling traffic in the area of a sporting event is Nazi-like?

In every bleeping running event through city streets, whether a Run Disney or Rock-n-Roll full & half marathon or a Name of School fundraiser 5K, block off streets and side street intersections. Organizers of these events and relevant police departments notify neighbors several days in advance, directly, not via newspaper or TV news. This is now Nazi-behavior?

Is AverageOldGuy such a lazy slug-a-bed that he's never seen this, as a runner/walker or as a neighbor? Or knowingly lying, hoping most DU-folk do not know this and those who do hate Trump too much to call out his lie?

Lived in the traffic nightmare mess of Chicago during the Presidencies of both Clinton and GW Bush, and whenever they popped into town, they absolutely ruined commuters travel. Presidential appearances are absolutely NOT disclosed weeks in advance, because of Secret Service and for national security reasons. It is a non-partisan issue. So eat a bag of dicks, AverageOldGuy.

In the real world, the shut down area, per https://www.nps.gov/whho/learn/management/rod_ufc.htm , is bounded by 15th Avenue NW, Constitution Ave. NW, 17th Ave. NW, and H St. NW. In that area are Lafayette Square, the White House, and the Ellipse.

Outside the shut down area, but possibly affected by traffic, obviously, are places such as the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and other memorials, the Smithsonian, National Gallery of Art, the Kennedy Center, State Department (Foggy Bottom), Capitol, Library of Congress, and George Washington University. The shutdown area is very much NOT "basically all of downtown DC".

2. "Last minute"? Really? Look at the date of that National Park Service webpage that announced the shutdown area and dates: "April 30, 2026, Last updated: May 18, 2026". The shutdown was announced 6 weeks ago.

If you know what to look for they are, though not in the way the DUmp'Rat is suggesting.

The announcement comes in the form of a Temporary Flight Restriction, or TFR issued by the FAA. These close the airspace wherever Chair Force One is on the ground and for a 30 mile radius around that airport and wherever POTUS happens to be scheduled to be for the event. I've seen 'em pop up with as little as 2 hours warning (#SpongeBrainShitPants closed the airspace around Delaware every weekend when he was POTATUS) but I've seen them go into the notices in the 48 hours to 1 week prior to a scheduled event.

In an attempt to make the government shutdown as painful as possible, the Obama Administration yesterday chose to erect metal barricades around the World War II Memorial (an open air memorial that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week) and stationed armed National Park Police to block World War II veterans from entering their memorial.

It’s ironic that while our Nation’s heroes are met by barricades, exactly two years ago back in 2011 the Obama Administration let members of the Occupy Movement camp at McPherson Square (also controlled by the National Park Service) for MONTHS before evicting them. Thousands of dollars in damage were caused by the participants who were illegally camping in McPherson Square.

Under the Obama Administration, the National Park Service chose to erect barricades to open-air memorials when they know World War II veterans are traveling to visit from across the country, while two years ago they stood by for months as the Occupy Movement erected illegal campsites on national park land in the Nation’s Capital. In addition, the Park Service is spending unknown thousands of taxpayer dollars to keep the public and veterans from their memorial, while in 2011 they spent thousands to cleanup the mess left by the Occupiers.
