The general attitude of Democrats who support Platner seems to be that he is permissable as a candidate because we are in desperate times (that's the same argument they always use to gloss over their candidates' flaws, but let's ignore that for a second).
The truth is, their party has always had shitty people in it. Platner's emergence just made it impossible to ignore.
