Voting is a right, not a privilege.

Correct sir. However I think one nuance we may be ignoring is that voting is simultaneously a responsibility, one that carries consequences for not exercising with the respect it is due.
The same concept can be applied to other rights as well, now that I think on it.
- I have a right to speak freely; that right comes with a corresponding responsibility to speak truth, and to be conscious of the downstream consequences of my words.
- I have a right to bear arms; that right comes with the responsibility to be cognizant of what is endangered by any round I might discharge AND the responsibility to use those arms in defense of my neighbors and community when called upon to do so.
- When confronted by agents of government, I have the right to remain silent; that right has the corresponding responsibility to SHUT THR **** UP, DIPSHIT!! whether the cop casually insults me to keep me talking or not.
And on, and on and on...
I think my biggest concern about draft armies is that conscripted units cannot match the professional qualities of the all volunteer force we Amerikaaners have been spoiled with since the excursion into Vietnam ended in the 70s. That brings with it the linked consequences of higher casualty rates on Blue Team forces, and the higher potential for screw ups where the term "war crime" gets bandied about by soft skinned types who think there are rules to war. As circumstances currently exist, there's no need for either, but we ALL are well aware that circumstances can change, and it's best to have a contingency or two in place ahead of time for when they do.

Just my two cents on the subject. Feel free to offer change...
Edited to remove redundant redundancies.
