I too served in the military and since I retired, I can't tell you how many times the Air Dorce and the Army have flown over or close by my home. Yes, I am not famous but sometime the military needs to fly over all airspace and there is a chance that despite the media blowing this up, that all this was a pair of Apache's flying back to Fort Campbell as usual and it just happened to be close to Kid rocks home.
I've lived in or near the normal weather flight path for Moffett NAS/Field. It's no longer a naval base, but Lockheed has projects whose contracts require delivery by military transport. So while I no longer see P-3Cs, U-2s (NASA), and occasional AH-1s, I still occasionally see a C-130 or C-17 flying into Moffett.
Where I grew up is near Travis, Mather, and McClellan AFBs (the latter two now former AFBs), so seeing B-47s or B-52s was not uncommon when I was growing up, and during the late Carter years I'd occasionally see a C-5A while driving near Fairfield on the way to visit my parents.
Garrulity aside, seeing military aircraft nearby is pretty ordinary for me.
