Police in West Bloomfield, Michigan, have rushed to the Temple Israel synagogue, where reports of an active shooter now also include a fire inside the building. A car reportedly crashed into the building first, followed by reports of gunfire. As usual, police are not sharing too much about what has happened, but are warning people to stay away....Update: CBS News reports from police communication that the shooter is down, and armed security took him down. The scene is still locked down while the FBI and police ensure that no other shooter is involved. No word on the fire yet....Update: Fox News also hears that the suspect is dead, and that armed security employed by the synagogue shot the suspect after he rammed a truck into the building:
The suspect, who is believed to have had a rifle, died after a shootout with security, according to a senior federal law enforcement official briefed on the investigation.Nobody inside the synagogue was hurt and all children are accounted for, Bouchard said.The only injury was to a security guard hit by the suspect's truck; the guard was “knocked unconscious” but is expected to be OK, the sheriff said.According to the sources, the driver was seen steering around security bollards, and caused a fire when colliding the vehicle into the building's front doors.The sheriff said the suspect drove his truck into the building and down the hall.The truck is being searched for explosives, the sheriff said.
Vehicle in Michigan synagogue attack registered to Dearborn man born in Lebanon: sourcesThe vehicle used in Thursday’s attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, is registered to a naturalized U.S. citizen from Lebanon who lives in Dearborn, according to three law enforcement sources who spoke to Fox News.Authorities cautioned that investigators can only confirm the vehicle registration at this time, noting the suspect’s body was badly burned.Law enforcement officials are still working to determine whether the individual who died at the scene matches the name tied to the vehicle registration.
5:10 p.m. - Synagogue attacker from Dearborn Heights Sources told FOX 2 that the suspect is from Dearborn Heights. Sources close to the investigation say the suspect is from Lebanon and that his family was killed in an airstrike over the weekend amid the war with Iran.
