James Talarico who won the Texas Democrat primary for U.S. Senator loves to (politically) preach. However, he performs Cherry Picker sermons in which he treats the Bible like a buffet in which you can pick only those items you care to consume and ignore the rest. However, Pastor James goes even further on that particular buffet line and also brings his own preferred food items to leave for others at the buffet much as he makes up stuff that he wants you to believe is in the Bible even when it isn't such as abortion rights for Trans.

Here we also see Talarico ironically warning about people like Talarico i.e. warning against people who claim the Bible says things that it clearly doesn't.

Talarico has a Master of Divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, which affiliated with the ultra-liberal Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). His earlier degrees are a BA in Government and a Masters in Education. IOW, not only is his MDiv from a denomination that uses the Bible like a buffet line, religious studies were not his focus in college.

He inveighs against one of Progs' favorite phantom bogeymen, "Christian Nationalism", describing Evangelicals (we're his real targets) in terms that demonstrate that he's never sat in an Evangelical church to listen and observe to see what we actually believe and do. He believes healthcare is a human right rather than something earned and paid for, with government being involved mainly for fraud prevention. He supports an illusory "Two-State Solution" and condemns Israel whenever Israel defends itself effectively. He supports whatever the alphabet-sex-people demand, including chemical emasculation and surgical mutilation for "trans" people. He supports remolding the USSC so they do what he thinks they should.

I'm sure he plays well in Austin, but even in Houston or DFW, I wonder.

His home church is St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Austin, https://www.staopen.org/ . It holds to the "The Five Points of Progressive Christianity", https://www.staopen.org/about-us , https://irp.cdn-website.com/2ee8b063/files/uploaded/The-Core-Values-of-Progressive-Christianity-Poster.pdf .

The Core Values of Progressive Christianity
By calling ourselves progressive Christians, we mean that we are Christians who...

1. Believe that following the way and teachings of Jesus can lead to experiencing sacredness, wholeness, and unity of all life, even as we recognize that the Spirit moves in beneficial ways in many faith traditions.

2. Seek community that is inclusive of all people, honoring differences in theological perspective, age, race, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, class, or ability.

3. Strive for peace and justice among all people, knowing that behaving with compassion and selfless love towards one another is the fullest expression of what we believe.

4. Embrace the insights of contemporary science and strive to protect the Earth and ensure its integrity and sustainability.

5.Commit to a path of life-long learning, believing there is more value in questioning than in absolutes.
