HUGE: What Most People Have Missed About US Use of Low-Cost Drones in Iran

https://hotair.com/david-strom/2026/03/02/huge-what-most-people-have-missed-about-us-use-of-low-cost-drones-in-iran-n3812417

... The particular wheat I want to talk about is a new strain that could change the tactical and strategic situation quite a bit, and that is the Low-Cost Uncrewed Combat Attack System (LUCAS) kamikaze drones that were deployed for the first time in this conflict with Iran.

Everybody who has talked about these drones has noted the irony of their use, because the base design is a rip-off of the Iranian Shahed drones that Russia has bought and used in Ukraine. The irony is great, of course, but I think they have missed the significance of a few tweaks the US has made to vastly increase the lethality of these drones and make them a game-changer on the battlefield.
...

Quote
“Costing approximately $35,000 per platform, LUCAS is a low-cost, scalable system that provides cutting-edge capabilities at a fraction of the cost of traditional long-range U.S. systems that can deliver similar effects,” Navy Capt. Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesperson, told TWZ back in December. “The drone system has an extensive range and the ability to operate beyond line of sight, providing significant capability across CENTCOM’s vast operating area.”

In addition, the LUCAS design includes features that allow for “autonomous coordination, making them suitable for swarm tactics and network-centric strikes,” a U.S. official told us. As we have explained in detail in the past, the swarming capabilities combined with some of the drones being equipped with Starlink terminals, means extremely advanced cooperative tactics and dynamic targeting are possible, all while keeping humans in the loop.
...
Integrating Starlink suddenly allows us to create a low-cost drone swarm with a man in the loop, using a resilient and nearly impossible-to-jam system that has a GPS-equivalent location tracking capability, the ability to coordinate, and a person hundreds or thousands of miles away able to direct them in real time.

I have seen much whinging about the US neglecting drone development, and dealing with military contracts can be a PITA. It looks, though, that some of the complaining is due to under-reporting and/or secrecy.

Hezbollah Enters War, Gets Instant Regret; UPDATE: Intel Chief Killed

https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2026/03/02/hezbollah-enters-war-gets-instant-regret-n3812432

Hezbollah continued its long line of very bad decisions late yesterday by inserting itself into the war on Iran. Despite clear warnings from both Lebanon and Israel about the consequences, the Iranian proxy terror network launched missiles at northern Israel. Its leadership probably hoped to alleviate the massive pressure on the regime in Tehran by diverting the IDF's attention.

Very bad decision:

Quote
Rockets and drones launched from Lebanon set sirens blaring across northern Israel in the early hours of Monday, as the Hezbollah terror group entered the fray to assist its backer, Iran, with its relentless attacks against the Jewish state.

The terror group’s attacks — which it said were in retaliation for the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the opening minutes of the joint Israeli-US assault on Iran on Saturday — were met with an immediate response from Israel, with waves of airstrikes across Lebanon, including multiple strikes in the capital, Beirut, and the Dahiyeh suburb, a Hezbollah stronghold. ...

The Hezbollah sounder has lost several more of its chief boars and smart sows ... from a sounder whose leadership was significantly depleted (Beep! Beep! Boom!!!) just a very few years ago. In addition to its air strikes, Israel also mobilized ~100K infantry, so a ground strike against Hezbollah may be in the offing.

LA’s shameful hospice fraud crisis laid bare — and the tens of millions of your cash going down the drain

https://nypost.com/2026/03/01/us-news/multimillion-dollar-fraud-probe-targets-california-hospice-agencies/

Quote
A network of hundreds of hospices are under investigation for allegedly ripping tens of millions of dollars from taxpayers in Los Angeles Country and across California.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is now actively cutting off payments to suspicious operations across Los Angeles, which is home to almost half of America’s end-of-life care providers.

A hospice industry insider provided the California Post with data detailing hundreds of suspicious hospices and home agencies across the state, including addresses where multiple agencies are listed at the same location.

A Post investigation found the addresses include empty storefronts, an auto parts shop and other offices that are unoccupied, some for years. Others don’t appear to exist at all.
...
The Post contacted the California Department of Public Health about the hospice and home health agencies in this article, including whether those locations have been inspected or are under review for potential fraud or violations.

The department confirmed all companies identified by the California Post were still licensed.

However, once they are inspected and receive certification, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services takes over inspections, they said.

”The CDPH may only conduct federal onsite investigations with approval by CMS.”

This has me totally perplexed. Some of my family members work in medical records with a very real hospice organization that has been doing their thing since the Reagan years. Medicare regs are very exacting. Every "T" has to be crossed with straight lines, and every "I" dotted with a precise .7 mm dot. If, as occasionally happens, a patient is decertified - for Medicare-specified cause and within Medicare specified timing - and the patient or patient's family appeals, it sets off a process in which months of records have to be produced, and Medicare examines.

I'm not complaining, just pointing out that some hugemongous fraud and neglect happened on the gooberment side - Federal and state - for this to happen. It looks like the loosening of oversight due to Covid and then during the LIEden MalAdministration created a huge window of opportunity through which flocks of fraudsters flew. It also means that the fraudsters had a massive effort to generate the paperwork (e.g. nurse and aide visit reports) necessary to keep the $$$$ flowing.

Given the regulocratic context, this kind of fraud has probably happened in other states, albeit on a lesser scale. Timmyville and PutzkerTown should get some attention along these lines.

Hacked Tehran traffic cameras fed Israeli intelligence before strike on Khamenei

https://www.calcalistech.com/ctechnews/article/syimwdmfzl

Quote
According to reporting by the Financial Times, nearly all of the Iranian capital’s traffic cameras had been hacked years earlier, their footage encrypted and transmitted to Israeli servers. One camera angle near Pasteur Street, close to Khamenei’s compound, allowed analysts to observe the routines of bodyguards and drivers: where they parked, when they arrived and whom they escorted.

That data was fed into complex algorithms that built what intelligence officials call a “pattern of life,” detailed profiles including addresses, work schedules and, crucially, which senior officials were being protected and transported. The surveillance stream was one of hundreds feeding Israel’s intelligence system, which combines signals interception from Unit 8200, human assets recruited by the Mossad and large-scale data analysis by military intelligence.

When US and Israeli intelligence determined that Khamenei would attend a Saturday morning meeting at his compound, the opportunity was judged unusually favorable. Two people familiar with the operation told the FT that US intelligence provided confirmation from a human source that the meeting was proceeding as planned, a level of certainty required for a target of such magnitude.

Predictable routines are a security risk, something high-level officials should have known or have been warned about.

Scott Jennings Drops a Truth Bomb on CNN About Iran

https://pjmedia.com/matt-margolis/2026/03/02/scott-jennings-drops-a-truth-bomb-on-cnn-about-iran-n4950135

Quote
On State of the Union Sunday, when the panel started wringing its hands over U.S. strikes on Iran, Jennings steamrolled through rhetoric with the kind of blunt force that makes CNN actually worth watching sometimes. Well, at least in clips shared to social media.

What happened was that CNN Global Affairs Commentator Sabrina Singh tried to argue there was no imminent threat from Iran — a talking point that's become the go-to shield for anyone who wants to criticize the strikes without defending the regime outright. Jennings wasn't having it.

"I totally disagree with you about the threat not being imminent," Jennings said. "I spoke to senior — very senior — administration officials yesterday. They believe that the Iranian regime was about to fire ballistic missiles, not at the United States, but into U.S. military bases and civilian targets. They were going to attack Israel. They are already attacking other Gulf states."

Singh pushed back, claiming the national security apparatus had assessed that no imminent threat existed. Jennings, unimpressed, cut right through it. "My guess is, I have spoken to higher-ranking officials than you."
...
"How long do you want to wait?" Jennings asked. "'Death to America'? 'Death to Israel'? How long do you want to wait? We waited 47 years. We have crossed every red line. Every president says they want to do something about it. Only Donald Trump had the guts to do it."

Then came the shot across the bow at Singh personally. "You said you're not shedding any tears for the regime, but you appear just not to like Donald Trump enough to be mad about it." There it is. Strip away the foreign policy posturing, and what you're left with is Trump Derangement Syndrome dressed up in national security language.

But the key point, of course, is that Trump isn’t starting another endless war, and Jennings made that point forcefully.

"Iran has been at war with us for 47 years. The central pillar of the regime is 'Death to America.' The other pillar is 'Death to Israel,' who is our ally. They have been at war with us, they have been killing American personnel and American soldiers for nearly five decades."
