Health Insurance Premiums

As a retired CPA, I still prepare income tax returns pro bono for friends and neighborhood widows and orphans.

One of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act was the required reporting of the cost of employer provided health insurance. It's reported in box 12a (Code DD) of Form W-2.

My most recent return was for a 40 year-old single male (the son of a very good friend). His gross wages were $25,778. The cost of his employer proved health insurance for 2025 was $7,744, which is 30% of his gross income and he has no chronic health problems. If it wasn't employer provided, there's no way he could afford coverage.

There is something terrible wrong with our system.

Obama care is garbage. No symphony from me. Wait, you do tax returns for orphans?

OhBummer!Don'tCare, the lyingly named Affordable Care Act was never affordable.

Further, by forcing companies' health plans to conform to ACA provisions, OhBummer!Don'tCare significantly increased the cost of company health plans by hundreds of dollar per year, a hit on employees who contributed toward their insurance plan costs (ACA cost me some $1500 at my previous company, which I left in 2016).

I though 0bamacare fixed all that?

And a 40-year old with $25k in gross earnings? Is he mentally challenged or something?

A few thoughts:

1.    :ownit:

2. The total tax rate in the progressive paradises that DUmmies often cite is at least 40% (total, not marginal), whereas here the total tax rate for loser liberals is limited to the sales tax on anything they choose to purchase rather than loot. So when you move to paradise, the taxman is going to take a chomp out of your weed money, DUmmies. MUCH bigger than here.

3. Those paradise countries tend to have healthier people in a more homogeneous population, so even though their healthcare costs are still quite large per capita, they aren't as large as here, where we have to contend with fatass liberals who can't so much as walk a block because they have "glandular problems" or their neighbor is MAGA and that gives them a sad. Other countries also don't have to deal with people exposed to the sort of diet that MAHA is fighting against. The sort of shitty food that liberals insist should be covered by food stamps does not even exist in Europe, and if it does, it's still healthier than here.

4. I would be fine with socialized healthcare if it covers major medical only with a 20% copay and doesn't cover lifestyle choices made by dumb assholes, and tort claims are limited to actual costs and loose women and freaks have to pay for their own dumbass lifestyle choices.
