LAPD Says It Will Not Enforce Gavin Newsom’s Mask Ban For ICE Agents

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will not enforce California’s ban on federal agents wearing masks during immigration operations.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said the policy makes little sense from a safety standpoint, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. He called the law a poor public policy decision that lacked proper consideration.

“We are in line with our federal partners on everything except immigration enforcement,” McDonnell said. “What we’ve seen since June here in Los Angeles and seen across the country, we’re as frustrated as everybody else — about the way that’s being done.” (RELATED: Appeals Court Halts Order Limiting ICE Tactics)

McDonnell told reporters at a news conference that one armed agency confronting another over a misdemeanor creates unnecessary conflict, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. He said his department’s job is to de-escalate situations rather than escalate them.

Even weasels have limits, and asking his officers to go head-to-head with Federal Law Enforcement officers looks to be beyond his. It's also possible that many of his officers and/or the police officers' association told him they would not comply with Noisome's hate-fantasy.

Democrats built up a massive sob story campaign over Adrian Conejo Arias after sharing sad photos of his five-year-old boy alone and in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. What neither those propagandists nor Clinton-appointed Judge Fred Biery want you to know is that ICE had to take charge of the child because his criminal father abandoned him and his heartless mother refused to take custody. To crown the whole, Biery’s order is dated February 31. I don’t know about you, but I call that the perfect loophole for the Trump administration to ignore the illegitimate order.

Unimaginable. Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie, went missing from her Arizona home over the weekend. When family members could not contact her yesterday, police began a search for the 84-year-old woman, described as "sharp as a tack" but reliant on daily medication to survive.

This morning, the Pima County Sheriff's Office declared her home a "crime scene," and investigators still don't know where Nancy may be:

According to Nanos, Search and Rescue teams from several teams including Pima County and Border Patrol have been looking for Guthrie. The Pima County Homicide unit is looking at Guthrie's home.

Nanos tells News 4 Tucson, helicopters were flying over the area for several hours Sunday.

"There are some things there that are concerning and we don't want to miss anything," Nanos said. "Search and Rescue ,their mission is, we want to find you - we want to find you safe and sound and help you and get you there. That still continues. But, we have an obligation to - when you look at things in this world of ours, you look at that and you go is there something wrong here, is there something missing? We can't just dismiss that. We need to stay on."

Pima County borders Mexico, and Tucson is its largest city. I hope to be wrong, but this does not sound good.

There is evidence of a crime at the home of the missing 84-year-old mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, according to authorities in Arizona.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen in the Catalina Foothills area on Saturday night, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department. Her family reported her missing on Sunday around noon local time, authorities said.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators processed her home on Sunday and "saw some things at the home that were concerning to us," and that it is considered a crime scene.

"She did not leave on her own, we know that," Nanos said during a press briefing on Monday.

Not sure if that means unwillingly or "just" not alone.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Every Homeland Security officer on the ground in Minneapolis, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, will be immediately issued body-worn cameras, Secretary Kristi Noem said Monday, in the latest fallout after the shooting deaths of two U.S. citizens at the hands of federal officers sparked widespread outrage.

Noem made the announcement on the social media platform X. She said the body-worn camera program is being expanded nationwide as funding becomes available.

“We will rapidly acquire and deploy body cameras to DHS law enforcement across the country,” Noem said in the social media post.

There have been increased calls by critics of Homeland Security to require all of the department’s officers who are responsible for immigration enforcement to wear body cameras.

The "critics" have not learned what ethnic activists have from insisting on police body cams. The cameras often prove activists' claims false.

Claims from current and former Minnesota state employees that have been vetted by state lawmakers allege their bosses ignored and rebuked fraud warnings for years, retaliated against the employees who raised the alarms and protected leaders who oversaw the fraud-laden programs, according to a whistleblowers' letter obtained by The Center Square.

The claims are made in an unsigned letter to Congress as it investigates fraud schemes that bilked government assistance programs for hundreds of millions of dollars in the state.

Some employees claimed they were accused of racism, in part because the money was flowing to "diverse communities," the letter said. Most of those who have been federally indicted for the fraud schemes are of Somali descent.

Specifically, the letter focused on the state's Housing Stabilization Services program, which awarded taxpayer dollars to organizations to ensure housing for older residents and those with disabilities, significant mental illness and substance-abuse disorders.

That program – initially estimated to cost less than $3 million each year when it launched in 2020 – swelled to about $104 million in 2024 and was on track to surpass that figure in 2025 before the program was shuttered, according to federal court records.

More than a dozen people have been indicted in recent months for fraud schemes related to the program.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Planned Parenthood has moved to drop its legal challenge against the Trump administration for cutting off Medicaid funding to its abortion providers across the U.S.

Since July, Planned Parenthood’s attorneys have been fighting to block part of President Donald Trump’s tax bill that they argued unfairly targeted their clinics and would leave vulnerable patients with even fewer health care options.

However, in December, a federal appeals court ruled that the Trump administration could continue to withhold Medicaid funding from Planned Parenthood and other health centers. Meanwhile, a separate lawsuit filed by a coalition of mostly Democratic states also challenging the cuts, was given a similar blow in January — though that legal challenge remains ongoing.

A third lawsuit, also over the funding cuts, filed in Maine by a network of medical clinics that was also impacted by the Trump tax bill, was voluntarily dismissed in October.

Planned Parenthood moved to voluntarily dismiss the lawsuit late Friday. An email seeking comment from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was the named plaintiff in the lawsuit, was sent Monday.

“The goal of this lawsuit has always been to help Planned Parenthood patients get the care they deserve from their trusted provider. Based on the 1st Circuit’s decision, it is clear that this lawsuit is no longer the best way to accomplish that goal,” the organization said in a statement.

Authorities believe Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie, was abducted or kidnapped after being reported missing on Feb. 1, triggering a massive search in the Catalina Foothills area just north of Tucson.

At a news conference Monday, Feb. 2, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie's disappearance was being investigated as a crime. He said a search that began Sunday night with ground crews and dog teams on foot and with drones and aircraft was stopped to give crews time to rest.

"At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night. Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction," Nanos said.
