Rob Reiner, wife dead in homicide at Brentwood home; police interview family member

Longtime Hollywood star Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home Sunday in what police are describing as an apparent homicide.

A spokesperson for the Reiner family confirmed the deaths Sunday evening.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner," the family spokesperson said in a statement. "We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

They're saying his son killed them.  Here are the questions I have - Will the liberals start showing us pictures of the fully automatic, bolt action, assault knife that was used for the killing?  Will they blame it on the knife?  Will they blame it on a poor upbringing?  Will they blame it on mental health?

I was not a fan of Reiner, but I won't celebrate his killing.  Prayers for the family.

He was unpleasant in expressing his politics, but unlike DU-folks, I don't wish unpleasant deaths on people, nor do I celebrate the deaths of people whose politics I disagree with.

All in all, though, this is sad news.

A bit of perspective wrt Reiner:

Rob Reiner said he felt ‘absolute horror’ watching Charlie Kirk’s assassination in one of his final interviews

https://nypost.com/2025/12/15/us-news/rob-reiner-said-he-felt-absolute-horror-at-charlie-kirks-assassination-in-one-of-his-final-interviews/

Quote
...
Reiner, who was stabbed to death alongside his wife at their Los Angeles home Sunday, told Piers Morgan just weeks after Kirk’s death in September that he was appalled by the conservative activist’s slaying.

“Horror. An absolute horror,” he said when asked about the shooting.

“I unfortunately saw the video of it and it’s beyond belief what happened to him and that should never happen to anybody. I don’t care what your political beliefs are. That’s not acceptable,” the outspoken Democrat told Morgan.
...
“What his wife said at … the memorial they had was exactly right. And totally I believe — you know I’m Jewish — but I believe in the teachings of Jesus and I believe… in forgiveness,” Reiner said.

“And what she said to me was beautiful — you know she forgave his assassin and I think that that is admirable.”

NEW: Police Arrest Nick Reiner After Parents' Homicides; Held on $4M Bail (Update)

https://hotair.com/ed-morrissey/2025/12/15/new-police-arrest-nick-reiner-after-parents-homicides-n3809895

Quote
As many suspected, the murders of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were the result of a family dispute of some sort. Police have taken Nick Reiner, one of their sons, into custody but have not yet revealed the formal charges. The level set for his bail gives a pretty good indication of what the indictment alleges, however:

Quote
Police have arrested Nick Reiner, the son of Rob Reiner, following the death of the acclaimed Hollywood director and his wife, Michele Singer.

Nick Reiner, a 32-year-old screenwriter and the middle child of Rob Reiner and Singer, was taken into custody on Sunday, Dec. 14, and is being held on $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department records reviewed by USA TODAY.

People Magazine reported that family members have pointed the finger at Nick, who has led a very troubled life with multiple visits to rehab since high school:
...
"Family friends" also pointed the finger at Nick, the Los Angeles Times reported, and suggested the conflict started at a party earlier in the evening:
...
Quote
Family friends told The Times that Rob and Nick got into an argument on Saturday evening at a party at Conan O’Brien’s home and that many people noticed Nick acting strangely at the party.
...
Update: Pray especially for their daughter Romy, who found her parents' bodies. She let the police know about her brother, the New York Post reported:
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.

Looking at some Rob Reiner Twitter posts at https://web.archive.org/web/20240726003551/https://x.com/robreiner

On May 31, 2020, Reiner claimed Trump was responsible for 105K dead and 40M unemployed due to Covid.

On July 1, 2020 Reiner posted that it was time for Trump to exit the WH and enter prison.

On January 6, 2021, that Trump should be arrested for sedition, treason, and inciting violence.

On April 5, 2020, that Trump is mentally ill.

On May 31, 2020, that Trump can't address the nation about racism or >100K dead of Covid.

On July 5, 2020, that Trump is a symbol of hate.

On June 28, 2020, that people who support Trump are racists because Trump is a racist.

On January 30, 2021, that Trump incited an Insurrection to overthrow the US government.

Moving past a bunch of less crazy railings ...

On July 13, 2020, that Trump is murdering Americans (Covid)

On July 11, 2020, that Trump is a White Supremacist, and that people who support Trump are White Supremacists

On November 17, 2018, that Trump is a F'ing (Reiner spelled it out) moron for calling for raking forest floors (Reiner is too ignorant to know that Trump referred to a very real underbrush management tool).

On August 14, 2020, that Trump is a F'ing criminal.

On July 2, 2020, that Trump is a stone cold racist who is running as a proud White Supremacist.

On June 27, 2020, that Trump committed Treason.

I ran out of patience half way through Reiner's hateful sludge. What Trump posted was entirely inappropriate, but the scores or hundreds of very public hateful Reiner comments calling Trump a murderer, Treasonous, and having attempted to overthrow the US government are the context.

Nolte: RIP Rob Reiner (1947-2025) — One of the Hollywood Greats

https://www.breitbart.com/entertainment/2025/12/15/nolte-rip-rob-reiner-1947-2025-one-of-the-hollywood-greats/

Quote
It’s unfortunate that those under the age of 40 will likely remember Reiner only as a divisive and boorish political activist. His decade on social media where he obsessively ranted against anyone who dared disagree with him, was not a pleasant thing to witness, especially his attacks on President Donald Trump and Trump’s supporters.

Thankfully, those of us of a certain age can remember him based on our first impression, as one of the Hollywood greats, a man who delivered two decades of iconic entertainment.

Rob Reiner might have been comedy legend Carl Reiner’s son, but this was no nepo baby. Born in 1947, he paid his dues guest-starring on the popular TV shows of the time (That Girl, Gomer Pyle, etc.) and writing for the era’s hippest show on television, The Smothers Brothers.

In 1971, he landed a co-starring role in what would quickly become one of the most popular and game-changing TV shows in pop culture history: All in the Family, where he played the flawed but likable Mike “Meathead” Stivic, a counterbalance to his Nixon-loving father-in-law, Archie Bunker (Carroll O’Connor). ...
...
Then, in 1984, it all came together for Reiner. This run might be unprecedented… Starting with his feature debut, Reiner directed seven popular feature films in a row, many of them iconic, all of them entertaining and timeless.

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
The Sure Thing (1985)
Stand By Me (1986)
The Princes Bride (1987)
When Harry Met Sally… (1989)
Misery (1990)
A Few Good Men (1992)
...
In the decades after, Reiner had a couple of hits — The American President (1995), The Bucket List (2007) — but there was something missing in his work as he became increasingly engrossed in partisan politics.

Reiner threw himself into the 2024 presidential election, including producing God & Country, a hyper-partisan documentary warning about the deadly threat of “Christian nationalism.” Then President Trump won reelection, and Reiner chose to retreat from social media entirely.

Earlier this year, he released a sequel to Spinal Tap and, in general, seemed more at peace with himself during interviews and public appearances.

After the murder of Charlie Kirk, the memorable and welcome humanity and grace Reiner displayed was the exact opposite of what we saw from most Democrats and leftists…

Well, I'm closer to 2 times 40 than 40, but I did not watch much TV in the 70s, and when his big hit movies were released, my kids were toddlers, preschoolers, and in primary grades. So despite my age, I don't have much attachment or nostalgia for his strongest work. I actually mainly remember, of his Hollywood work, his supporting part in the chick-flick "Sleepless in Seattle", for which he was not the director.

What I do have strong memories of is his abrasive and sometimes slanderous hyper-partisan rantings. I wasn't aware that he had tried the "Christian Nationalism" shtick too, for which I would have been one of his 10s of millions of targets. People who know more of the movie world are free to set me straight, but it sounds like he got sucked into partisan politics through the Clintons, drank their and other Dem leaders' koolaid by the 55-gallon drum, and left a lot of his creativity on a dusty shelf.

Rob Reiner's Disturbing Final Hours, Plus a Touching Tribute From James Woods

https://pjmedia.com/sarah-anderson/2025/12/16/rob-reiners-disturbing-final-hours-n4947146

Quote
On the Saturday night before the couple's murders, they were attending a Christmas party at the home of former talk show host Conan O'Brien. Nick was also apparently in attendance, and he got into a "very loud argument" with his parents during the party. A witness told People magazine that "Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous."

Apparently, the argument was over money. "Rob wouldn’t agree to give him the money because he knows his son has a serious drug addiction and was lying about it," the witness claimed. "Rob was saying no, and they got in a big fight."

Witnesses also say the couple left the party shortly after, though it's not clear if Nick went with them. However, the LA Times reports that there was no sign of forced entry into the home after the murders, so it's possible they took him to their house.
...
Actor James Woods appeared on Jesse Watters Primetime on Monday night and gave an especially touching tribute to his relationship with the late actor-director ... .

Woods said that Reiner "literally" saved his career at a time when a studio didn't want to put him in a movie. Reiner believed Woods was perfect for the part and fought for him and eventually won.

"And we did Ghosts of Mississippi together, and I went from really being basically out of a job to getting an Academy Award nomination, and I give all the credit to Rob," he said.

Quote
I said, "Look, let me explain something about Rob Reiner so that you know."

First of all, I judge people by how they treat me, and Rob Reiner was a godsend in my life. We got along great. We loved each other. We had more fun together doing a very serious subject. It was a way to kind of get through it. And he was always on my side.

But when people would say to me, "Well, what do you think of his politics?"

I would say, "I think Rob Reiner is a great patriot."

Do I agree with some of or many of his ideas on how that patriotism should be enacted to celebrate the America that we both love? No. But he doesn't agree with me either, but he also respects my patriotism.

And yet Reiner proclaimed that people like me who voted for Trump are racists and White Supremacists. Reiner hated 10s of millions of people he never met because he disagreed with their political views.

I remember some of his hit-pieces on Trump. He despised Trump and didn't attempt to buffer any point he wanted to make. Trump no doubt was familiar with Reiner's "opinions". Like Maddow or Tapper, Reiner's hit pieces were powered by TDS, not facts. His pretend-facts were twisted and the supporting logic and numbers he used to back up his stories were pathetic. Reiner wanted to get to Trump but fell short. He simply wasn't smart enough. Trump was, and is occupied trying to fix real problems. He doesn't schedule  much "gottcha-time" in his daily planner.
I don't mean to dance on Reiner's grave. And, his family members don't deserve the grief they are experiencing.  But, if anyone goes to the trouble to read what Reiner, and others put out there as facts (without the burden proof) it's fully understandable how Trump didn't feel the need to sugarcoat his statement.

The link in my post above from yesterday has a compilation of Reiner's Hate-Trump Twitter/X posts. Reiner was Trump-obsessed, especially during the 2020 Presidential campaign and Covid. Reiner blamed Trump for the people who died of Covid - as did DU-folk, BTW - but in none of his posts that I slogged through did Reiner explain how Trump could have kept Covid out of the US (I wonder if Reiner denounced Trump's January 31, 2020 China travel ban as racist).

I would have loved his reaction to that question. His head would have exploded trying to avoid giving Trump credit.
It would have made a typical Kamala salad appear focused and well thought out.

Liberals Are Right That Trump's Reiner Tweet Was Ungracious, and They Should Shut Up About It Too

https://hotair.com/david-strom/2025/12/16/liberals-are-right-that-trumps-reiner-tweet-was-ungracious-and-they-should-shut-up-about-it-too-n3809935

Quote
What happened to Rob Reiner was horrific, and while it would be wrong to say I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy—I think it would have been awesome for Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin, or Hitler to die at the hands of a family member or loved one—I certainly don't think that any ordinary person, however imperfect, should suffer such a fate.
...
It's not like he was a pedophile rapist, like Roman Polanski. His great sin was being a blowhard.
...
But I also believe that most people who are complaining the loudest are ridiculous hypocrites who have absolutely no right to say so, because they celebrated Charlie Kirk's death, or excused those who did in the most vile ways. Many of them still do.
...
So to them I have two words: screw you. After being subjected to vile slanders for over a decade, conservatives really don't care what you think. You have called us Nazis, bigots, the Gestapo, fascists, wished us dead, told pollsters we should be put in camps and have our children taken away, and lamented that Thomas Crooks wasn't a better shot.
...
Rob Reiner was himself exceptionally gracious, and I believe sincerely so, when Charlie Kirk was murdered, for which he deserves great credit. His was a rare voice from the left.
...
This doesn't excuse Trump's outburst, but Rob Reiner was, you must admit, not merely a Trump critic but one of the prime celebrity promoters of hoaxes intended to bring Trump down. While silence would have been Trump's best response, asking him to say insincere words of praise would be a step too far. One suspects that Reiner would have made an exception from his usual graciousness upon Trump's own demise.
...
Whether that is true or not, it is galling to be lectured to about graciousness from the same people who have been utterly vile to conservatives when they pass away. It is beyond hypocritical. It is yet another example of appropriating the mantle of virtue in the service of evil.
...
Conservatives have a right to chastise Trump for saying aloud something that strikes us as off-key, but unless a liberal loudly denounced the hatefest after hatefest aimed at conservatives, they should sit down, shut up, and look in the mirror. You are not more virtuous than Trump.
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.
