A certain tourism loss

I can attest to this. A very close friend who has three dogs, only thought about visiting nephew and family in Philly. I volunteered to stay at her house.

She read the new restrictions (fascist demands) of the government, said to me this morning that she will never, ever go to a country with those conditions.

Mark this down for one (very white) woman who won't set foot in the USA.

Restrictions, you say? Be specific on what exactly is fascist.

Chicago Suburbs to Face Tighter Rules to Stop COVID-19: Pritzker

Gov. J.B. Pritzker imposed tighter restrictions designed to stop the spread of the coronavirus in suburban Chicago amid a sustained surge in COVID-19 cases that has shown no sign of slowing down.

The strict rules will take effect Wednesday in Regions 5, 7 and 8, which include Will, Kankakee, Kane and DuPage counties as well as the far southern tip of the state, Pritzker said Monday.

The coronavirus pandemic has continued to rage in those parts of the state during the past two weeks, when Pritzker imposed the first level of restrictions, which included a ban on indoor dining.

“The virus is winning the war,” Pritzker said.

Pritzker blamed the worsening state of the pandemic on residents who are not wearing masks, washing their hands and keeping 6 feet of distance from those who are not members of their households.

The governor also called on local officials to enforce the rules — calling it “good politics” while acknowledging that it would incense a vocal minority.

Not in the mood to look up the draconian arbitrary rules further by the deep Blue Democrat states during the height of the Chinese Wuhan Red Death, but I think y'all get my point.

I would say the DUmmies see this move as "safety"

I may be weird, but I suspect that crime is a greater tourism deterrent for major US cities like NYC, Chicago, the Land of LA, Baltimore, Philadelphia, ... . I know companies started yanking conventions out of SF due to crime and the Sacred Homeless a decade or more ago. The current advice (for about a decade!) for SF residents and visitors parking cars is to leave nothing visible in the seats or floor of cars, else a smash-and-grab thief will smash a window and steal the whatever.

This pleases me because I don't want foreign tourists to visit the U.S. if they won't respect our laws, rules, and regulations

I don't think international tourist who "won't respect our laws, rules, and regulations" would fit well or last long in MouseLand or MouseWorld.

I've seen no slowdown of Canadians crossing the border and coming to shop.  The taxes are so much lower, even in NY.  It's just too tempting.  You should see them clog up the Dollar Tree!

canetoad's post was trying to himalayanize one (possibly fictional) friend into a tourism disaster for the US.
