DU, Hurricanes and Karma

First the karma part because so many DUmmies are true believers in karma.

2. Lovely dream.

Unfortunately, if TS Melissa stays on its current track, depending on what weather conditions are, it will most likely end up moving toward mexico, texas or louisiana.

So I would love that too.

Unfortunately for these posters, who apparently weren't smart enough to look at the hurricane projections, Melissa was never tracking towards Mexico, Texas, Louisiana or Florida.  It was however tracking into the Caribbean islands.  And as karma would have it, the hurricane is going to hammer Jamaica, home of their beloved poster Malaise.  So, with their dreams of massive destruction in Southern Florida dashed, all of a sudden, they are concerned that this could be a really bad storm and a bunch of threads worried about Jamaica and Malaise popped up.  So, massive destruction in the US is a good thing, particularly if it affects Trump in some manner.  Massive destruction in Jamaica is a bad thing, because they realized that massive destruction anywhere is a bad thing.

And Malaise, who posts about every tropical wave that pops up in the Atlantic and tries to present herself as an amateur hurricane expert posted this about the track of the eye wall:

That said this will be severe for thousands

Malaise has just demonstrated she knows absolutely nothing about hurricanes.  The eye is not the worst part of a hurricane.  The worst side of a hurricane moving north in the Atlantic, Caribbean or Gulf is the side east of the eye and is called the "dirty side".  The very worst winds and tidal surges occur in the northeastern quadrant of the storm.  If the eye went straight through Kingston or even better moved further east, the strongest weather would have been offshore to the east of the island.  Since the storm moved west the majority of the island is going to see the worst of the storm.  She must have gotten her degree in Hurricane Science from the same school that Nadin attended.

Unlike the DUmmies, who wish death on everyone they don't like, I wish her and everyone in Jamaica the best, because this is going to be a really bad storm.

The eye contains the highest sustained wind speed and the largest storm surge. This is the worst of the storm, but it is contained to a much smaller area in relation to the rest of the storm. The north east quadrant generally is the largest area of bad weather, is generally a large section of the hurricane, and takes a lot longer to pass. This is why it is considered the worst section of the storm.

By this tracker from PBS, https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/live-map-track-the-path-of-tropical-storm-melissa , it looks like the hurricane passed directly over Jamaica as a Cat 4 or 5 and hit (or will hit) southeastern Cuba. When it's Cat 4 or 5, whether Kingston was hit by the worst part of the hurricane or was missed by 10 or 20 miles is pretty much a distinction with little difference. mal may be doing well in her gated community (or is putting a brave face on significant destruction?), but many/most Jamaicans are suffering while mal is :stoner: ing and hitting the rum in her prosperous hidey-hole. Assistance will probably come to ordinary normal Jamaicans from North America and the UK.

I may be wrong, but I think that on DU it is possible to both know nothing about a subject AND still be considered an expert on said subject.

Except for scamming SSDI, DU is the place I would go first to get the best most accurate advice on that subject.

Been wondering what that drunk would be saying about the hurricane and I wasn't disappointed. Still doesn't know jack shit about anything.

We may be quibbling over semantics, but what you wrote is incorrect.  The highest winds and greatest storm surge are northeast of the eye.  This link explains why:
