I argued that point endlessly with many liberals. They are all for taxing corporations to "pay their fair share", but you mention tariffs ... now all of a sudden it's the customer who is paying those and they want to call it a tax.

For years, I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get them to understand that. This is the best that I could come up with…
Let’s say one of the top DUers decides to start a business. Since the DUer is very proficient in producing stupidity, it decides that its business will be selling stupidity to people. Before you laugh, maybe there are people out there who would kind of like to join DU, but they feel that they just aren’t stupid enough so now they can buy a box of stupidity from this business Dummie. Well, the DUmmie’s business grows, and it hires employees to help it to box up and ship the stupidity. Now, all of a sudden, the government decides to raise the taxes on the DUmmie’s business. The DUmmie has two main choices. It can continue the status quo and pay the new taxes out of what was once profit and cash to advance the business. Doing that could result in operating at a loss OR the DUmmie can raise the price per box of stupidity high enough to cover the taxes which is essentially passing the tax onto the consumer. Now, I’m sure that the DUmmies reading this will claim that they’ll just pay the taxes out of their salary, but that (like most things that they say) is a lie. Even if they did do it the first year, by the second year they'd be saying that the hassle of running this business isn't worth what they're making and would raise prices or close the door.
