This is more like giving context to a two-month-old story than news:

How Trump’s Tariffs Helped Thwart a War in Southeast Asia

It is nothing short of a miracle, then, that a full-scale war between Cambodia and Thailand was averted in late July 2025. This victory for peace was the result of efforts from several nations, particularly members of the ASEAN organization such as Malaysia. For reference, ASEAN is a joint security and trade partnership of several Southeast Asian countries.

Looking outside Asia, one key player stands out in the final ceasefire agreement: the United States. Actions taken by U.S. President Donald Trump provide one of the clearest examples of a truly non-interventionist America. By using economic incentives rather than threats of military force, Trump set himself apart from his most recent predecessors in the White House.
...
While tariffs have generally sparked negative reactions worldwide, a case can be made for their careful, calculated use to achieve specific foreign policy goals.

ASEAN has voiced opposition to U.S. trade tariffs. Despite this, the organization refused to retaliate with tariffs of its own. Preserving strong trade relations with the United States remains ASEAN’s top economic priority. This gave Trump an opening. He realized that the mere threat of tariffs could prove highly effective, especially once fighting broke out between Thailand and Cambodia.

Initially, Thailand rejected an American offer to mediate the conflict. Yet just one day later, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Trump engaged in direct communication with leaders of both nations—a major step forward in the negotiation process. What changed the Thai government’s mind so quickly? It seems Trump’s declaration that tariff negotiations would be paused until “fighting STOPS” convinced Thailand to come to the table.

What the MSM consistently choose to ignore is that Trump is a negotiator, a deal-maker. What Dems and their shills derided as "TACO" was Trump "persuading" other countries that negotiating mutually beneficial trade deals would be preferable to, "Nice tariffs and regs you got there ... it'd be a shame if ...". In this case, Trump's tactic was, "You can come to the table, or you can experience consequences." Economically, I think Thailand is doing better than third-world average, Cambodia much less so. But even stronger Thailand would not have enjoyed economic consequences.

WRT the reference to French colonialism in SEA, the area was and had been a tribal hodgepodge for centuries before the French came along. Sometimes overgrown city-state kingdoms, sometimes regional near-empires, sometimes even dominated/ruled by China. Whatever the "sins" of the French, the current conflicts and tensions would still be.

Trump announces $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times for defamation, libel

President Donald Trump is bringing a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times, accusing the paper of being a virtual "mouthpiece" for the Democratic Party and making an illegal "campaign contribution" in 2024 to opponent Kamala Harris.

Trump announced the lawsuit late Monday on Truth Social and said it would be brought in Florida. This marks yet another legal action taken by the president against a major media organization after forcing settlements with ABC News and CBS News over the past year.

"Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the History of our Country, becoming a virtual 'mouthpiece' for the Radical Left Democrat Party. I view it as the single largest illegal Campaign contribution, EVER," he wrote. "Their Endorsement of Kamala Harris was actually put dead center on the front page of The New York Times, something heretofore UNHEARD OF!"

Trump accused the Times of engaging in a decades-long campaign of "lying" about him, his business, family, and the MAGA movement.

This, IMO, is decades overdue, and not limited in scope to Trump. MSM shilling for and doing in-kind political contributions to the Dem Party dates, at the least, to MSM anti-Reagan hysteria. Arguably, the roots can be seen in the LOLITS coverage-image of the 1964 R Presidential convention and of the MSM covering up JFK's routine whore-hopping during the 1960 campaign. Re the latter, I wonder how many "reporters" were rewarded with "sloppy seconds" on the JFK Campaign dime.

ICE rips Pritzker for ‘siding with criminal illegal alien’ after officer dragged, suspect shot dead

https://www.foxnews.com/media/ice-rips-pritzker-siding-criminal-illegal-alien-after-officer-dragged-suspect-shot-dead

Quote
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is calling for more "transparency" after an ICE officer was seriously injured during an encounter with an undocumented immigrant outside Chicago. The suspect was shot and killed after allegedly dragging the officer for a significant distance with his car.

ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan pushed back on Pritzker’s comments, accusing Democrats of siding with illegal migrants over law enforcement.

"They obviously continue to take the sides of these criminal illegal aliens who put our people in harm's way," said Sheahan Tuesday on "Fox & Friends."
...
The Department of Homeland Security identified the suspect as Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez and said he resisted arrest and attempted to flee during a traffic stop. Sheahan said Villegas-Gonzalez, who entered the United States at an unknown date, had a record of reckless driving and a final order of removal.

When officers tried to detain him, he allegedly drove toward them, striking and dragging one agent. The officer then opened fire. Villegas-Gonzalez was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Pritzker: If ICE hadn't tried to arrest him, the guy would still be alive.

ICE: If the guy had not illegally been in the US, ICE would not have been there to enforce the law and the guy would still be alive.
