So many lies in this thread.

Who was at DU during Hurricane Katrina? And, where is Swamp Rat? I was here & it was intense...

Please forgive if someone has already posted this question. It was so intense.

Hurricane Katrina came ashore as a Cat 3 and made landfall closer to Mississippi than New Orleans.

The mayor was a black guy named Naggin. He’s in jail. For some reason the whole fiasco in Nola was Bush’s fault.

I watched the whole thing and being just north of Houston where they shipped most of the refugees, I have a unique perspective.

I’m not bringing any posts over but this one and I think you’ll understand why.

72. Somehow, for me, the other two felt far more horrifying.

Maybe because both Iraq and the Katrina fiasco felt like deliberate crimes carried out by the BushII regime, while 9/11 felt like something that outside bad guys did (though in retrospect I understand that it was at least a product of his incompetence).

Also, 9/11 was a single event that lasted a few hours, while Iraq and Katrina were horrors that just kept going on and on.

Also, I wasn't on DU for 9/11. I wasn't a member yet when we were invading Iraq, but was a lurker.

Damn.

Is/was "Swamp Rat" a DU member?

It took nearly 8 1/2 years, but former Mayor Ray Nagin got convicted on 20 charges related to his corruption. He went to prison in September 2014, was released to house arrest in April 2020 (because Covid), which ended in March 2022, and was on supervised probation for another 2 years. Given the arrogance he expressed when his probation ended, quoting MLK Jr.'s "Free at last ...," I do not think he believes anything he did was wrong.

DUmmies need to believe that GWB was to blame for the Katrina disaster, but it was due to decades of neglecting NOLA's levees by the Army Corps of Engineers and state/city, plus Goobernor Blanco and Mayor Nagin - both Dems - delaying permission and cooperation with the Feds (because Bush).

Do DUmmies still believe the Dem-MSM lie that 10000 died in NOLA?

Which city has recovered more fully, 20 years after? NOLA or Biloxi?

If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.

There were parking lots full of buses they could have used to transport people and they didn’t.

It was so stupid that even a kid realized it and STOLE A BUS to move people. He got in trouble for it at the time but I think the public outcry caused the authorities to back off.

The people they brought to Texas were not the people we wanted brought to Texas. I don’t care what you think of me. Those people were trash.

You didn't ask, but you'll receive anyway:

Obviously not all NOLA school bus drivers could have gotten there in time, but there aren't gaps in the lines representing drivers who did. NOLA had hundreds of potentially useful buses but had no plans for actually using them in an emergency.

I believe at least one Amtrak eventually left empty after offering rides to escape the storm. The offer may have been made to the mayor's office and deemed unnecessary.  I don't remember the details of refusing the offer, but it was made to some "agency".

Yes, Swamp Rat was a member. I remember the name and the memes he used to post. He was as crazy as the rest of them.
