This really happened

This really happened

Probably almost 15 years ago.

We were coming back from Ocean City. Both sons-in-law left the beach early to go back to work, so our daughters, the kids, my husband and I were all in the van, to go back to our daughter's house and then home. The van was crammed with all of our beach stuff. We took the wrong turn on the way back from the beach and ended up entering NSA HQ, which was one way in and no way to turn around. There was a long line of vehicles, which all had to be checked through, and it looked like we were going to be delayed forever. But a convoy of trucks allowed us to go ahead, and we explained to a guard that we had taken the wrong turn. We had to go to a special area, were questioned, the van checked. A guard asked my daughter for the registration, and she asked me to get it out of the glove box. I realized that on another drive, my son-in-law had privately told me he had a gun in the van, jic. I was horrified to think what would happen if a gun fell out while I was getting the reg. I was so glad that didn't happen! The check took quite awhile, kind of extended because the guard was hitting on my daughter (!) but they finally had a guard from the canine unit come over to escort us out. They were in a vehicle and had a dog in with them. We had the van windows open because it was so hot. We heard the dog barking its head off as we followed the vehicle out. The escort hit their gas and zoomed away, almost as if they were trying to lose us. We almost followed them back into the complex, but luckily 2 of the 4 adults in the van were paying attention and we got back on our way. Turned out that there was a gun in the van, in a hidden compartment. No one else in the van knew it was there, but the dog did. lol I'll never forget the dog barking and the driver screaming 'Shut up!" as they sped back to hq.

The guards in the car with the dog had guns that were a lot closer but somehow the dog smelled a gun hidden in another vehicle?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

yeah, it probably never happened, at least not this way, but with over 20k posts, it's long overdue:

Her landscaping looks very overgrown. Her front door wheelchair ramp looks like it's seen a better decade, IYKWIM.

Can you really "mistakenly" enter a highly secured government facility just by taking a wrong turn?  I know right around here, Fort Drum might as well be Fort Knox.

I did this once but not by accident. My dad and I were driving along the north side of Edwards Air Force Base. I saw a sign for an entrance and decided to go ask about visitor tours. Turns out is was the wrong entrance for that and the guards there were not happy about it. They took copies of our drivers licenses and then watched us closely as we turned around.

I looked it up later online and scheduled a tour where we entered at a south gate. You park outside and then a bus takes you on the tour.

Many years back we were on vacation in the south, possibly Myrtle Beach, but might have been Virginia Beach.  I had a bill I needed to mail out that week, so I was using Waze to guide me to the post office.  Well, it guided me right up to a military base where I had to explain myself.  I don't think they gave me the stink eye, but after checking my license they kept a good eye on me as I went through the gate so I could go around the guard post and exit the other side.

Can you really "mistakenly" enter a highly secured government facility just by taking a wrong turn?  I know right around here, Fort Drum might as well be Fort Knox.

Assuming the first part of her story is true, it isn't difficult to accidentally end up where she claims she ended up.  She is somewhat exaggerating about entering NSA HQ.  She would have actually been at a guard post entering Fort Meade, which houses NSA HQ along with a couple of dozen other government offices and military units.  Fort Meade is situated at the intersection of the Patuxent Freeway and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.  If she was coming from Ocean City, MD she was probable on the Patuxent Freeway and accidentally took one of the exits going into Ft. Meade thinking they were heading to the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.  If you look at a map you see where the last couple of exits before the BWP are exclusively for access to Ft. Meade.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fort+Meade,+MD/@39.1041676,-76.7744008,3312m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x89b7e684d72bda8d:0x6eeccde1c5d60377!8m2!3d39.1042635!4d-76.7342399!16zL20vMHR0Y3Q?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDgxMS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

So, even though the exits are clearly marked, it's still reasonable that they made that mistake.  Because of Ft. Meade's location it's probably a mistake that occurs quite frequently by people unfamiliar with the area.

The rest of her post is complete BS.  The guard posts are built with a place to U-turn vehicles that aren't allowed on base.  They would have given them directions back to the highway, had them U-turn and watched them carefully to make sure they followed directions and didn't try to enter the base.  They wouldn't have diverted a resource to guide them back to the highway.  Unless maybe they recognized that they were dealing with a vanload of DUmmies and realized they were too stupid to follow simple instructions.

In my experience they wouldn't have even asked for ID.  I'm somewhat surprised that DUmpDiver had to produce ID and had it copied.  I can only assume that Edwards was operating under some heightened security level for some reason.

As for the hidden gun and barking K-9, zero bouncies.  As already pointed out, the dog was enclosed in a vehicle and isn't going to smell your gun over the guns carried by it's handlers.  And, if the K-9 vehicle was in the lead taking them back to the highway, the dog was upwind of their van and wouldn't be able to smell anything related to their vehicle.

The only thing believable about this Bouncy is a DUmmy got lost.

Probably the closest I've come to driving into a military installation was driving past the mothball fleet near Benicia on I-680. Travis AFB is farther from I-80 than the mothball fleet was to I-680.
