Moving 600 or 700 miles from one state to another is a huge accomplishment?

I moved 800 or 900 from Phoenix to Silicon Valley and didn't think of it as
THAT big a deal.
As for FL being "oppressive", has any DU-Denizen reminded
Pacifist Patriot what letter is commonly appended after the names of VA's governor and lt. governor?
Two years for a PhD in China ... the US accreditation/recognition issues aside
(US universities do not accept for credit under-graduate degrees from mainland Chinese universities), it would take 2-3 years of near-total immersion for an English speaker to learn Mandarin - vocabulary and tones - well enough to take university-level classes in China (a Level 3 certificate is required, IIRC, a mastery beyond the average non-university person "on the street")). Unless "the baby" has already acquired this degree of fluency, (s)he is probably taking classes in English in one of the huge eastern cities (e.g. Shanghai or Guangzhou or Beijing), i.e. an experience of life and culture in China deeper than a 2- or 4-week tourist, but not like that of a student in a city where westerners are uncommon.
