Postal Issues?
« on: Today at 09:47:21 AM »
Has anyone else been having a problem with the US Postal Service acting like it’s being ran be the mayor of LA or Chicago?

It seems that the source of my problems may be mostly the Jacksonville FL Distribution Center. All of the mail coming to me has to go through Jax, and once it gets to Jax you have no idea of where it’ll go and when it’ll arrive. Right now, I have a package that was suppose to arrive on the 13th. It got to Jax on the 11th, but instead of coming to me, it’s now in Peurto Rico.

Since, in order to get to me, it’ll have to pass through Jax again, I have no idea when I’ll finally get it. Two weeks ago I had to pay my first late fee on something in over 30 years because a payment that my wife mailed out three weeks before it was due never arrived at its destination. Considering Jax’s track record I have to assume it is more of their handiwork.

Up here in Wyoming, all of our USPS stuff has to clear thru Denver. My "cell mate" here at work had his daughter send up some documents for him to sign from Amarillo via 2-Day Priority Mail. She handed it to the post office to get it started on it's journey on a Friday morning, so "2-Days" should have put that envelope in his hands no later than Tuesday afternoon. It took a day to get from Denver to Cheyenne according to the Tracking, another day to get from Cheyenne out to the local post office, and the package went out for delivery the following day.

Thursday. When 2-Day priority mail was paid for it to arrive on Monday, Tuesday at the latest.

Myself, I have a couple of packages that are supposedly in transit from an Amazon vendor. One was supposed to have arrived last Friday. The other supposedly got here yesterday. I have neither, and have started Amazon looking into the situation as of last night. More to come on this front, I'm sure...

Clearly, this is Trump's fault and Elon's fault.

The USPS is and has been a total train wreck for decades. Akin to Congress: everyone likes their Congressperson, everyone whom knows their mailman likes them. But as an organization, it is incredibly inefficient.

I'm in Georgia and had a package about a month ago that came from a northern state. It traveled to the Jax Distribution Center like lightning, but it took forever to get to me. I'm maybe an hour and half drive from the Distribution Center. If I remember correctly, it got to Jax a day or two ahead of schedule. Then it was about two weeks over the estimated arrival date before it finally reached me.

I finally filed one of those "find my package" reports on that one. Also, while I was waiting I did a google search for reviews on the Jax Distribution Center. Apparently, it's more common for them to screw things up than to get things correct.

I just noticed that it took 6 days for it to get to Puerto Rico from Jacksonville, Florida. I assumed the mail would go there by air, but do they use worn out carrier pigeons or something?

Most of our online shopping comes by Amazon SmileVans, Fedex, or Brown. A few years ago there was a year or two when Fedex's Tracy facility was like a black hole from which some shipments slowly or didn't emerge. Our experiences with Brown have been fewer, but OK. I think USPS has been OK, though there was one item coming from FL via normal delivery time for which the estimated delivery time was two days, totally unrealistic. The actual time was about what I expected for the distance and weather.

Swallows, actually. Probably African swallows, to appease the DEI gods...
