FirstLight (15,288 posts)My letter to Kevin Kiley (R) Ca Dist 3 - Re: Sale of public lands in Tahoe, etcHe hates us, and has NO backbone or integrity...BUT i figured I'd go ahead and send it. Another local in my locals FB gour suggested a mass letter with signatures and I suggested a postcard party to flood his office... so we'll see if that gains feet...~ ~ ~Dear Congressman, I know you are not prone to listen to us as your constituents...but I am reaching out to appeal to your better conscience. You know our District, and that Lake Tahoe and our surrounding El Dorado National Forests are VITAL to our communities. That land is a National Treasure that WE the People paid for with taxes - for upkeep, forest conservation, and fire prevention and suppression. Not only that, but these PUBLIC ands are a generator of income for the entire region, as we bring in Millions of people each year to enjoy and experience something very rare in today's world...untouched Nature. This is OUR land, and we, as taxpayers...and basically shareholders, refuse to allow this clearance sale of OUR assets. If anything, choose the environment for the future of your children. We cannot continue to pillage these natursl resources at will and expect it to be ok. ...and as much as Elon will try to tell you otherwise, Mars is NOT an option. So please, have a shred of decency and understand this is more than just land, it's lives, habitats, and tourism dollars that matter to US, YOUR bosses.Respectfully,Lisa TerrellMeyers, Californiahttps://www.democraticunderground.com/100220410016
Federal funding generated from the sale of public land in Nevada will be used to finance 36 projects aimed at enhancing recreation and restoration projects across Nevada and the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin. The Department of the Interior announced Tuesday that $375 million, sourced from land sales under the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA), will be split between several projects to enhance recreation opportunities, fund capital improvements, conserve wildlife habitat, and reduce the threat of wildfire across the state.Since its inception in 1998, SNPLMA – implemented by the Bureau of Land Management – has generated over $3.5 billion from the auction of about 18,000 acres of public land in the Las Vegas Valley.
