Eugene V. Debs, Man of Irrelevancy.
Cesar Chavez, Cesar Chavez ... good at inspiring but poor at administering, poor judge of character and nepotistic. Huge Lib cult hero, but feet of clay and the UFW was largely irrelevant in California agriculture by the end of the 1980s.
Ironically, Chavez inadvertently helped create the context for our current invasion of illegals. Back in the 1940s, FDR created the Bracero Program to reduce illegal immigration. The program allowed a certain number of Mexican workers to enter the US at the start of harvesting season, follow the seasonal ripening picking fruit or vegetable, and then at the end going back to their families in Mexico at the end of the season with their wages. Chavez hated the program because he couldn't unionize the Braceros. So, working with other unions and the Dems, the program got killed. I won't speculate how Chavez would vote, but he certainly would not like illegal immigration.
