Hamas Creates Humanitarian Crisis In Gaza, Blames Israel

Israel News Agency

Jerusalem, Israel ----- January 21, 2008 ....... As the world suddenly awakes to a problem in Gaza, much of the media again blames Israel. Newspapers around the world ink their headlines with "Gaza Dark Amid Israel Blockade" and "Gaza Plunged Into Darkness As Israel Fuel Blockade Takes Effect."

It appears that Israel has nothing better to do than just make the lives of innocent Palestinians in Gaza miserable.

What much of the global media misses or chooses to ignore is that Hamas cut off the electricity to Northern Gaza - not Israel. Hamas did so even after inviting the media to watch it happen. That most of Gaza has electricity. That humanitarian supplies of fuel and medicine continue to flow into Gaza from Israel even as the people in Gaza toss deadly rockets on Jewish children in the Negev town of Sderot.

Israel has threatened to cut off Gaza from the world. And why not? What democratic nation would tolerate a city controlled by Hamas terrorists who launch thousands of deadly rockets onto Israel civilian towns and cities? One only needs to ask the traumatized children of Sderot as they run crying into cold cement air raid shelters. Or ask the citizens of Ashkelon, if they feel safe.

HonestReporting.com in an article entitled: "Lights On, Nobody Home" illustrates how Hamas is using professional public relations to place a spin on Israel.

Quoting misleading headlines in LA Times and The Guardian, HonestReporting states that: "You could be forgiven for thinking that Israel has cut off the entire electricity supply to the Gaza Strip." HonestReporting.com states: "The mainstream media ultimately assisted Hamas in creating the impression of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The fact is Israel has restricted fuel supplies in response to the terrorism emanating from Gaza but continues to provide the Palestinians with electricity. The Times of London omits this vital fact altogether in a story headlined "Darkness falls on Gaza as Israel takes revenge for rocket attacks".

AFP, while quoting Israel officials, also omitted the facts leaving readers with the impression that Israel is simply denying responsibility."

In fact, Israel Defense Minister Ehud Barak has announced that Israel will continue to allow fuel for Gaza Strip's power plant as well as medical supplies into the Hamas-controlled territory.

The power plant, which depends on fuel funded by the European Union, under the orders of Hamas shut down its two working turbines on Sunday, plunging Northern Gaza City into darkness, after Israel closed border crossings on Friday.

Emphasis mine.

Then, after getting some "emergency fuel" they shot a bunch more missiles and mortar rounds into Israel.

As trucks bring Gaza fuel, medicines and food from Israel - Palestinians fire 17 missiles Tuesday at Israeli targets

January 22, 2008, 6:49 PM (GMT+02:00)

No casualties were reported in Sderot where 10 Qassam missiles exploded or S. Ashkelon which took two hits Tuesday,. Jan. 22. Gaza’s power station is working again, powered by Israeli fuel. The UN Security Council meets Tuesday night for a session called by Arab governments to denounce Israel.

Monday night, Barak caved in and gave a “one-time” order to resume the heavy fuel and medicines deliveries to the Gaza Strip after two days’ slowdown as a sanction against a hail of up to 40-50 missiles a day Hamas and its allies were raining down on Israeli civilians. He surrendered to the international and Arab pressure drummed up by Hamas’ highly telegenic humanitarian crisis and its success in blotting out its own “collective punishment” of the next-door Israeli population.

Neither the foreign ministry nor the army spokesman was geared to fend off the impact of Hamas’ darkness-in-Gaza stunt. By the time they protested that Israel under heavy missile fire was feeding Gaza 75 percent of its electricity and its hospitals (unlike those in Arab countries) were caring for dozens of Palestinian patients from the Gaza Strip, no one was listening.

This episode had three immediate effects:

1. Hamas successfully mustered Arab opinion across the Middle East against the Western siege imposed on the terrorist-ruled Gaza Strip.

2. The prestige of Palestinian Authority leaders Mahmoud Abbas and Salam Fayyed suffered a knock for failing to force its peace partner, Israel, to lift the siege of Gaza.

3. Israel’s surrender to pressure was an object lesson for the Lebanese terrorist group Hizballah, as well as the Palestinian Islamists Hamas. Hassan Nasrallah has launched his own propaganda campaign against Israel over the remains of soldiers allegedly left in Lebanon from the 2006 war.

4. The plight of Gaza’s 1.5 million inhabitants did not reached crisis point – unlike the dwindling Israeli communities living under constant Palestinian missile fire.

Yet their plight never made it to the world media in the same way as the show of suffering in Gazan.

Olmert and Barak are widely criticized in Israeli political and military circles for abruptly clamping down sanctions on Gaza without proper preparation and without being sure they could take the heat.

After WW II there were 50 million displaced people in Europe.  They were absorbed in a generation.  The festering sore of the so-called "Palestinians" continues to this day because their "brother" arabs won't take them in.

And it amazes me people are stupid enough to take up this "cause."

Yeah that figures. How many more Israeli lives will it take before Bush and Omert (and any other leader who thinks peace is possible with the palistinian authority) to wake up?

Seems to me that their brother arabs tried to take them in.....on several occasions.....but this particular bunch of malcontents refuse to assimilate anywhere.  It is really a shame, as Gaza in particular has so much potential.  It could be the "Cancun" of the middle east.....miles of resorts, hotels, condos, beaches and casinos.  All these things would create hundreds of thousands of jobs, both skilled and unskilled for these folks.

It reminds me of a certain faction here in the US......
