Why hasn't the Odessa/Midlands shooter's identity been released?
Could the real shooter have been a rightwing operative acting on instructions from higher up?

Has the real shooter been allowed to escape?

Did the police kill an innocent bystander as part of a larger cover-up?

"Just shut up and trust us!" is the best fuel for paranoid conspiracy theories!

1. I don't think there is a CT here

Since Columbine there has been an effort to withhold the fame that so many of these sickos seem to want. The effort should be on remembering the victims, not their killers.

6. There has been an effort to encourage the press not to give the shooter too much notoriety

That's a sensible PoV

But it's not the same as officials withholding the name of someone shot by the police

8. These have been real issues ever since someone burned the Ephesian Temple of Artemis

in 356BC, with the hope of being remembered forever because of that deed

But there are multiple other public-good considerations here

4. If he had priors cases were those handled correctly? Abbott was Attorney General.

Did Abbott’s office handle the case, would the Governor try to hide that fact?

There are accountability questions relating to the criminal justice system such as, did anyone warn police about the shooter prior to the incident?

Was the shooter a prior police informant? Was he prematurely let out on parole/probation? Were there deals given to him that should be subject to public scrutiny.
Did a judge make a horrible decision on a prior case? Texas elects Judges and voters would have a right to know this.
https://www.tpr.org/post/why-do-we-elect-judges-texas

All these questions can be answered with a simple disclosure.

9. I've been wondering the same thing

I bet he is a big cult 45 MF45 supporter. If he was a minority the name and picture would have have already been released. Even the Daily Guardian which gets news first is mum on the shooters identity. Kind of suspicious.

12. Odessa Shooting Suspect named

Seth Ator has been identified as the accused gunman who was shot and killed by police after a rampage in Odessa and Midland, Texas, according to the Associated Press. Police said the shooter was taken down by officers at the Cinergy movie complex in Odessa. The incident began around 3:15 p.m. local time on Saturday, August 31, as an attempted traffic stop along Interstate 20.

2 hours later...

18. What would explain a police refusal to tell you who they'd shot?

"We shot a suspect but we won't tell you who it was"

I suggest people cultivate a healthy paranoia

If we're really OK with "We shot a suspect but we won't tell you who it was" then someday soon we'll hear "We imprisoned 70 threats to public safety but we won't tell you who they are"

IIRC, the shooter was a registered Democratic Socialist who had a “Bernie 2020” sticker on his truck.

I have to say that it's somewhat of a relief to see that leaping to CTs is not a partisan thing. Because of where I hang out - not Prog/Lib discussion sites - I mainly see conservatives who fantasize minor things like this grand CTs. And when reality shoots down their CT either fall into the proverbial Egyptian River or move on to their next CT.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.
