With all due respect it does hurt

This is a post from a thread about a coach baptizing some kids on a school football field, after hours.  I just wanted to put this here for any lurking DUmmies so they can see how most of them talk out of both sides of their mouth.

18. With all due respect it does hurt

Do you have any atheists in that school? What about Buddhist? Jews? Islamists? Satanists?

Do they get equal time for their holidays?

In the past I have been unrelenting and openly hostile in my feelings on religion, any religion. I have always felt It should be crushed out of existence. Religions spread hate, ignorance, violence and intolerance.

I have softened that opinion with an exception: as long as said religious person/people keep their views and beliefs to themselves and never use it to influence public policy or discourse, keeping their perspective private, than I don't care. (Do you feel the same about gays?)

Putting up decorations, outside your home much less at a school, violates that exception. (Somehow I'll bet I can find you cheering the US Embassies on who flew the gay flag ...)

Essentially, this is normalizing, acclimating, people to their religious norms, specifically, their religious norms.
Because, even among Christians, the dates for holidays like Christmas and Easter, can be very different.
Celebrating Christmas was even against the law in the US in the early years and was rarely celebrated until the 1840s.
We need less of these things, not more.

A great deal of the conflict in out society, from climate change to healthcare, is in conflict because of evangelicals Christians in the US.

We have to halt this influence on public thought and discourse or it will be the ruin of us all.

angrychair ... want to come over and defend this?  I'll guarantee you won't come over and visit with us.

22. While I agree with you that religion may be more harmful than good

I have to balance my beliefs with the beliefs of others. And I also have to co-exist with my neighbors (as do my kids and spouse). I do have a line, that if crossed I would speak up and ask that the action/behavior be remediated. I think the administrators at the school know they are walking a fine line with this. And the decorations are nicely done.

And I do think if another religion wanted to put up a symbol it would be allowed.

While I think we give too much deference to religious beliefs, I do think it is everyone's right to practice their religion. We just shouldn't be making policies based on 2000 year old myths.

24. I appreciate your position

I believe we, as atheists, have tried to be accommodating and tolerant but we let the line blur and now we are now closer to a theocratic nightmare on Earth than we ever have before. (So, if there is nothing in the place of the religious symbols then isn't that what an atheist worships?  Nothing?  Why must you foist your God upon US?)

We have allowed religion to dominate our money itself, the irony of having their God's name on money eludes them.
Their religion now dominates every aspect of our lives: culture, politics, education, science and business are all unduly influenced by their religion.

We now sit have a number of states fighting as hard as they can to turn women into second class citizens. Their plans for the LGBTQ are far worse.   (There it is, I knew you'd find the courage to throw that in there.  See my comments above ...)

I've given up at this point. I'm trying as hard as I can to relocate outside the US. (   :yahoo:   )

What is coming is likely unstoppable at this point and people like me won't fair well in their new nation.

If he was really a true atheist he wouldn't be able to express what year it is to anyone.  We are now in the year of our Lord 2019.  Interesting how the world recognizes the life of Christ.

Just my thoughts.

Nothing in the US Constitution requires that religion be private only. Quite the contrary. Both the Free Exercise and the Free Speech clauses of the First Amendment guarantee a right to be and speak religiously in public as well as in private. And that is freedom, not government "tolerance".
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

90+% of atheists do not disbelieve in God.  They HATE God since God applies moral standards beyond what laws require.

It is impossible to be moral and an atheist.  If this is all we have then Gandhi, Mother Theresa and the 20 9/11 killers are all the same: when they die that ends it.  Hug someone or kill someone, it is all the same:  you are the Universe.  Pretty heady stuff knowing no matter how good or bad you are it is only relevant to how you feel about your actions.

But "atheists" hatred for theism -- and Christianity in particular -- always amuses me.

That's all it is; hate.

If they were truly indifferent about God, they wouldn't spend so much time and trouble trying to erase God from our culture.

I changed "religion" to "Jews". So who from the past and in the present does that sound like now? Yep, sounds like liberal Democrats.

Time for me to put on a BarlowGirl album and tackle some Christophobic ignorance!
"Angrychair" is such a hypocritical bigot, and as the OP observed, he most definitely was talking out of both sides of his mouth. He talks about how he himself is "Openly hostile" towards religion and wants to see all religion "Crushed out of existence," then in his very next entry has the gall to say that atheists "Have tried to be accommodating and tolerant" (Try telling that to any Christian who's had to live in a Communist/ Socialist nation).
btw, his comment on how people (By which you can tell he specifically means Christians) should keep their religious beliefs completely to themselves has two BIG problems:
1. First and foremost, that would completely violate their right to Freedom of Religion, which specifically bans "Prohibiting the free exercise" of their beliefs. It would also violate their right to Freedom of Speech.
2. What about church and other such worship services? Those necessitate leaving the home and being in a more public setting.

Oh, and how is "Climate change" caused by evangelical Christians? I can kind of see "Health care," as he is almost certainly among the crowd that believes women aborting their babies purely for the sake of their own convenience to be a form of "Health care," but I can't think of any way it causes "Climate change."

"Their religion now dominates every aspect of our lives: culture, politics, education, science and business are all unduly influenced by their religion."
Well, considering that our nation was founded by Christians, and on Christian principles, and is the religion that the majority of Americans practice, that shouldn't be too surprising.

"I've given up at this point. I'm trying as hard as I can to relocate outside the US."
Need some help packing? One less obnoxious bigot in our country is always a good thing.

freedumb2003b got it perfectly right, especially when it comes to this DUmmy; He hates God, because God loves us enough that He doesn't want us to destroy ourselves morally and thus gives us commandments and guidelines to follow to help us better walk with Him. Also, though he doesn't realize it, his "Climate change to health care" comment reveals another reason why he hates God; Because Christianity gets in the way of him and his fellow atheists achieving their twisted political goals. Christians oppose many of the demented goals that liberal atheists have (i.e. Widespread celebration of every kind of perversion, the sexualization of children at increasingly younger ages, rampant abortion on demand up to and even AFTER birth, full legalization of all drugs, etc.). They've got to tear down what they see as "The old, bad world" in order to bring about their nightmarish "Brave new world," and believe the first thing to destroy to that end is anything which involves the God they hate so vehemently.

Fascinating, as always, to observe the completely distorted thinking processes of Leftists.

I believe that a lack of proper Mathematical and Rhetorical and Grammatical study in their early years - along with an emphasis on "feelings" - has led to millions of Americans demonstrating ill logic in their statements.

Oranges are fruits, and that's why I hate kiwis! Sound like something from a DUmmy?

I can think of one, but I doubt it's the same one I'm thinking of.....and I'd bet you would rejoice in seeing prayer mats in school.....
