For everyone who is interested in my surgical cancer journey ...

 
The good news is I didn't wake up with a catheter and bag this time ...but there were cancer cells in my urine, they took a tumor and some surface lesions and my surgeon Dr Wang (seriously, that is his name) thinks the cancer has broken through the wall of my bladder. In two weeks after the biopsies come back, I have an appointment to go through my options: a resection to remove the section of the bladder where the cancer is, removal of my prostate or a removal of the bladder and prostate. If you take a bladder, the prostate has to go with it.

I've been fighting this thing to a draw but the stakes are increasing.

Thank G*d I'm part of one one of the largest socialist health care system in the world: VA. Thank G*d it is really a good program. I think VA is a wonderful model of what every single American should have.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like DU-member marble falls would be wiser get "get his house in order" than to waste time praising his government healthcare. That sounds like he has stage 4 cancer - I'd gladly be corrected by someone who understands better - and his bladder cancer is spreading to the rest of his body.

As for excellent care, on my various company health plans I've had brain surgery by a neurosurgeon who previously was on the Bethesda Naval Hospital medical team for President Nixon. One of my children spent 3 weeks in Stanford on IV antibiotics to treat osteomyelitis. Another of my children was treated for a rare cancer-like disease at UCSF Hospital by the leaders in treating that family of diseases. For starters. Whatever government healthcare might be unique for, excellence isn't it.
