It was a French fox.  Their human counterparts lost two World Wars in the 20th Century.  Their animals seem to want to match.

Ya might wanna check the scores on the 1918 game.  Nobody really won it, but it was definitely Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire that lost it.
