Chipotle rethinking firing manager who refused to serve black customers over ‘dine and dash’ fears

--- Quote ---The restaurant chain Chipotle announced Saturday that it had terminated one of its managers for suggesting in a viral video that five black customers were planning to order food without paying -- but on Sunday, the company acknowledged to Fox News that it was considering re-hiring the manager because her suspicions may have been well-founded.

In a series of video clips seen more than 3 million times on Twitter, a Chipotle customer in St. Paul, Minn., identifed as 21-year-old Masud Ali, and several friends are told by a manager: "You gotta pay, because you’ve never had money when you come in here.” An employee adds, "We're not gonna make food unless you guys actually have money."

As Ali and his friends complain about "stereotypes," the videos show employees at the store claiming that the group had previously ordered food on two occasions without paying. The store manager also calls the police in the videos, which were recorded and uploaded by Ali.

Dine and dash.  :mental:

SVPete:
Sounds like a case of stupid corporate haste. FF managers usually got to that position by working the tails off, entailing lots of experience. Chipotle poohed the screwch by reacting without knowledge. And besides losing valuable people (probably) also fed the Victim Industry.

Eupher:
OK, I don't do Chipotle, so I'm a little slow on the process.

Customer goes through the line and the servers prepare the plate. Burrito, rice, beans, whatever.

What server actually gives the food to the "customer" before being paid?

This ain't passing the smell test....

ETA: Based on the tweets and the other bullshit posted by the criminals who like to steal food and brag about it, not only should that manager be hired back, but she should receive a bonus for being knowledgeable enough about the "customer" to want to protect the company against thievery.

And then there not only needs to be an announcement about all of this, there should also be a statement that anyone attempting a "dine and dash" will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. And then procedures need to be tightened, based on risk (St. Paul is apparently a risky place to run a fast food joint) to have a customer order what they want, have it paid for, and then proceed building it.

SVPete:
My guess is that the store manager or an employee spotted and recognized them as previous dine-and-dashers while they were still in line. Then when they got to the point where they start their order, the manager stepped in and told them, "Show me the money," before work was started on their order. That part makes sense.

What does not make sense is that without speaking with the manager and coworkers or verifying from security footage that these were known dine-and-dashers, Chipotle Corporate knuckled under to Race Card players. The messages that sent are toxic:

* Chipotle Corporate told its employees that they do not trust them and will act without knowledge when complaints are received;

* Chipotle Corporate told Race Card players they can commit fraud with impunity.

J P Sousa:
This all sounds like democrat entitlement mentality.

This happens quite a bit lately.
