--- Quote ---ATLANTA -- NFL owners have unanimously approved a new national anthem policy that requires players to stand if they are on the field during the performance but gives them the option to remain in the locker room if they prefer, it was announced Wednesday.

The policy subjects teams to a fine if a player or any other team personnel do not show respect for the anthem. That includes any attempt to sit or kneel, as dozens of players have done during the past two seasons to protest racial inequality and police brutality. Those teams also will have the option to fine any team personnel, including players, for the infraction.

People come to watch football, not see protests.

The owners got the message with fewer ticket sales, smaller TV viewership and a big reduction in licensed merchandise sales. All of this affected their bottom line so they gave the Commish the mandate to fix it. The NFL can now fine teams whose players don't stand for anthem and teams can, in turn, fine players.

Eupher:
Yep, no question about it. It's all about money. I'm not convinced that owners give a damn for respect for the flag, except as it translates to money.

Possible exception to the owner of the Dallas team. Can't remember his name.

The only thing that would make this sweeter would be if all money from fines were to be donated to local police charities.

Or to purchase flags from U.S.-based flag companies to hang all over the stadium at every game. Bunting, flags, everything red-white-blue.
