Evidently they lie awake at night trying to think up new and particularly vicious ways to exercise their evil, twisted desires. Licensing slaughter of elephants is what they would think of as "a good first step." What's next? Join the evil Japanese in their murder of whales?

Apparently it was just a cancellation of an order by his predecessor Messalina Agrippina's husband.

It was unworkable, and everyone knew that.  But ol' Bill found it a handy way to make his successor look bad, by ordering it, knowing fully well George Bush would be made to look bad by rescinding it.

As usual, everybody but the primitives knew exactly what was going on.

Even though elephants are listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, a provision in the act allows the government to give permits to import these trophies if there is evidence that the hunting actually benefits conservation for that species. The official said they have new information from officials in Zimbabwe and Zambia to support reversing the ban to allow trophy hunting permits.

"Legal, well-regulated sport hunting as part of a sound management program can benefit the conservation of certain species by providing incentives to local communities to conserve the species and by putting much-needed revenue back into conservation," a Fish and Wildlife spokesperson said in a statement.

The article only half says it,but this looks to be yet another Trump reversal of an Obama EO that was contrary to existing law. Obama's EO was issued in 2014, so it's not like his total ban has had much effect - except possibly to inflate the market price for poached ivory and hurt several African countries' economies..
