Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Makes an Anthem Stand: ‘If We Are Disrespecting the Flag, Then We Won’t Play. Period’

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones has had it with anthem protests. Just how tired of it is he? Tired enough that Jones has now publicly said that if his team doesn’t respect the flag, they’re not going to play.

According to Pro Football Talk, Jones said, “If there’s anything that is disrespectful to the flag, then we will not play. OK? Understand? If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won’t play. Period. Period.”

Jones continued, “We’re going to respect the flag, and I’m going to create the perception of it. And we have. I’m not aware and wouldn’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not aware of that. . . . We as a team are very much on the page together. We have made our expression that we’re together.”

The two Cowboys who raised their fists, Damontre Moore and David Irving, supposedly, weren’t on that same page.

Jerry Jones gives Cowboys players ultimatum: Stand for national anthem or sit for game

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Sunday any player who disrespects the flag will not play.

"I know this, we cannot ... in the NFL in any way give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag," he said following the Cowboys’ 35-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers. "We know that there is a serious debate in this country about those issues, but there is no question in my mind that the National Football League and the Dallas Cowboys are going to stand up for the flag. So we're clear."

Jones and the rest of the team knelt arm-in-arm before the national anthem before a game against the Arizona Cardinals two weeks ago, days after President Trump reignited the anthem-protest controversy.

Dallas players have stood on the sideline, many with hands over their hearts, during the anthem ever since former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started kneeling last season in protest of what he believed were instances of racial injustice in the U.S.

Jones said showing respect for the flag and the anthem is more important to him than any potential issues of team unity.

The Florida Gators may have accidentally inspired a new fight song for patriots who love football and won’t back down to the anti-American NFL antics.

Just before the fourth quarter of the college football game, a crowd of approximately 90,000 sang in unison “Won’t Back Down” as a tribute to Gainesville native and American rock icon Tom Petty, who died this week at age 66.

Fans were enjoying the spirit of the game instead of the bitterness of anti-American politics.

Is the song a great message to the NFL?

You bet. NFL is not too big to fail and the fans won’t back down.

Watch and enjoy the way football used to be … unifying.

More Restaurants Across The Country Now Boycotting The NFL

It seems the NFL doesn’t know when to quit. American businesses owners are weighing in by boycotting their games in their establishments. And they are being very well received by their customers.

First Willamette Week has the story:

Until two weeks ago, Ira’s Deli on 72nd and Prescott was pretty much the only spot in Portland’s Cully neighborhood showing the NFL Sunday Ticket. But owner Iraj “Ira” Rafei says he now refuses to show the games because NFL players are disrespecting the American flag and anthem.

Last year, quarterback Colin Kaepernick arguably is out of a job over his decision to kneel silently during the national anthem in protest of police brutality. But after Trump wistfully dreamed of a day NFL team owners would fire any “son of a bitch” player who dared kneel during the national anthem to protest police violence against black men, the silent protest has expanded into a movement.

And while Rafei got pushback on Yelp, from angry NFL supporters, he stood his ground.

Rafei says he is not responding to the content of the protest over police violence—just how people treat the anthem.

“It’s not the principle,” he says. “I’m not a politician, I am a veteran. I fought for our country, I deeply believe in our flag, in the national anthem. It’s a matter of respect. I’m an American.”

Allen West has this story:

A Marine veteran and restaurant owner recently decided that he had enough of all the disrespect being dished out by NFL players who were taking a knee during the National anthem and thought he’d do a little protesting of his own by boycotting the games and not playing them in his establishment.

No doubt there will be more following this trend. It’s just not a good idea to get into a power struggle with Americans who love their country.

Democrats grumble about costs of Mike Pence's NFL 'stunt'

Congressional Democrats are complaining about the costs to taxpayers of Vice President Mike Pence's decision to fly to an Indianapolis Colts game, and then walk out of the game to protest the decision of some players to kneel at the game.

Pence flew from Las Vegas to Indianapolis, then left the game shortly after arriving after members of the San Francisco 49ers didn't stand for the national anthem. He then flew to Los Angeles.

That had some Democrats, like Adam Schiff, D-Calif., wondering about the costs.

"After all the scandals involving unnecessarily expensive travel by cabinet secretaries, how much taxpayer money was wasted on this stunt?" Schiff asked on Twitter Sunday.

"This was orchestrated to make a point? Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, asked on Twitter. "That's not an inexpensive thing to do.'

A CNN reporter tweeted that Air Force 2 costs about $43,000 an hour to fly, which would put the cost of the flight alone at about $200,000, but that excludes the costs of Secret Service protection.

On this one, I agree with the Dems.

Waaaaaay too much "business travel" than is necessary, and certainly to engage Air Force Two to fly from Vegas to Indy, and then back to LA.

Unless, of course, Pence pays out of his own pocket. But I don't see that happening.  :whatever:

106 miles from Washington DC to Wilmington Delaware.

The article dates from 2014, but the point stands -- career and professional politicians will find a way for taxpayers to pay for something that the elites don't want to pay for.
