I can see why they'd do it in an analytic way, rather than have a couple thousand-plus possible lawsuits circling around for two years before the filing deadline runs out.  The optics of it are a disaster though.

I'm no lawyer, but it smacks of nothing more than legal maneuvering to minimize or eliminate any sort of legal culpability/responsibility.

It's all about money.

That too. Anyways, it stinks of high heaven.

Las Vegas shooting: Memorial events mark 1-year anniversary as massacre motive still shrouded in mystery
https://www.foxnews.com/us/las-vegas-shooting-memorial-events-mark-1-year-anniversary-as-massacre-motive-still-shrouded-in-mystery

Quote
One year ago today, something compelled Stephen Paddock to grab a gun and start firing out of his room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, killing 58 people and wounding hundreds more in the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

Police investigating the shooting have released hundreds of photos and videos of the massacre, and eyewitnesses have come forward and to tell harrowing stories of survival – and recovery. Lives have been altered forever.

Yet a year since the shooting began, one thing remains a mystery – what pushed the 64-year-old Paddock to pull the trigger?

It has been one year since 58 people got massacred at Route 91 Harvest Festival.

So many unanswered questions.
