Trump Wins When The NFL Takes A Knee

An interesting take on things.

Trump Wins When The NFL Takes A Knee

Scott Greer  Deputy Editor  9:23 PM 09/24/2017

The biggest message to come out of President Trump’s Friday rally in Alabama had nothing to do with its intended purpose of helping out Sen. Luther Strange.

The president urging NFL owners to “get that son of a bitch off the field right now” if any of their players take a knee during the national anthem immediately inflamed one of the biggest battles in America’s culture war.

Ever since then-San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Colin Kaepernick started taking a knee when the anthem played last season, Americans have argued fiercely on the merits of this particular brand of protest.

Conservatives have seen it as outrageous disrespect for the troops and the nation itself. Liberals and ESPN have portrayed it as a courageous act of defiance against racism and police brutality.

The debate hasn’t gone away this season, with more players participating in the protest while Kaepernick remains unemployed.

The 'money shot' is a few paragraphs later.

Quote
In reality, Trump has taken the side of the flag and provoked multi-millionaire athletes into opposing patriotism. When several players for the New England Patriots took a knee during the anthem on Sunday, their own fans booed them. So do fans of the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Redskins when members of those respective teams knelt.

As I said in another thread, the way I see it, the NFL players taking a knee are showing submission to the American flag--and the country it represents. :whistling:

The way I see it, they're attention whores who are highjacking their time at the game to make a completely unrelated political statement.  Nobody who bought a ticket came to the game to see some millionaire assholes making a political stand, they came to watch a game of football.  If the NFL wants to make the experience irritating and offensive, a lot fewer of those people are going to play that shit.

Liberals and ESPN have portrayed it as a courageous act of defiance against racism and police brutality.

Portrayed it.  But not explained it.  They can't.  It's based on the myth of Hands Up, Don't Shoot

'Courageous'... against what illustrative backdrop?

The whole "knee" thing is meant to thumb a nose at those who treasure the Anthem and what it stands for. No other way to put it, especially when the attention whores kneel down during the Anthem, but stand up for "God Save the Queen."

I know, Euph.  What I said in the other thread is that we need to reframe the narrative to describe it as such.

I hear what you're saying -- I just don't believe that "reframing the narrative" would be effective. Those "taking a knee" aren't doing so because they feel subordinate -- they do so because they feel entitled, and they're pissed off at the very system that has blessed them so abundantly.

It doesn't make sense, and yet little of what those ****tards do makes sense.
