I catch and eat a lot of fresh water fish.

Other than trout, it's almost always fried and I'm trying to limit that. Hard to do.

Yesterday I had some LM bass and looked in the fridg and cupboard and came up with this. Got a pot of water boiling with some lemon and a little fresh thyme. Dropped fish in for 5 minutes. Took them out and put them on some cooked rice, Dripped some soy sauce over it. Turned out great. Simple and quick.

Okay, question.

Remember, I don't do fish.

Does one have to salt fresh-water fish, as compared with sea-water fish?

1. AHHH - fresh water fishing - eating it - not so much...

Spent 5 of 7 days last week - kayaking on the Salt River AZ - with daughter and son-in-law - son-in-law fished the whole way...but he just throws them back..of the 5 days - little bass mostly - one large bass

Salt River AZ - not sure how fresh water is.....but sure was enjoyable - two nights it was dark when we got to Phon Sutton D in the Tonto Natl Park...takes about 5 hours for the whole trip - water high..+1200..moving....4 or five small rapids..nothin' we couldn't handle..although...son-in-law lost a rod..Now he puts a bungy on it...duh!!!

3. Where I live, the risks in eating caught fish is in potential poisoning from mercury, PCBs, arsenic,

selenium, etc.

I don't fish much anymore, but when I did I would regularly get updates/advisories from the state (Utah) that suggested limiting the eating of caught freshwater fish because certain lakes and rivers are contaminated by these compounds. Maybe its all good in Ohio (if that's where you're at), but considering the long history of industry in your neck of the woods, I would suggest checking to make sure your local fishing hole is uncontaminated by leached or run-off chemicals.

4. Back in Michigan

I'm too old to worry about it. If I was young and planning on kids, I would be carful. Had blood checked for heavy metals and my numbers are good.

How about broiling it?
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

As soon as I saw that cooking method I knew the whole thing is made up.

Even so, I do like to eat seafood and also do a lot of LMB fishing. I tried LMB once and that was for me enough. I always catch and release both LMB and smallies, as do virtually all of the regulars that do this kind of fishing. But that's just me.

even that would be a far cry better than that slimy mush that must have been being boiled in water. dang that's nasty.
Maybe next time he can just run the damn thing through is 400 dollar juicer so it's gmo and gluten free ... isn't that something these emotionally crippled hacks do nowdays?

I've never kept one either.
If I'm going fishing for actual FOOD, it's gonna be crappy, bluegills or smaller catfish... and they are going int he deep fryer, not some goop of boiling water nasty... i can't even imagine how bad that would be.

Nice little trout rolled in flour and fried in real butter.  Nothing better.  Native trout much better than hatchery trout though.

Nope.

Don't they serve walleye up there in the great north of Nebraska, Frank?

Fantastic.  In my book probably only second to crappie for freshwater.

I can't stand freshwater fish anymore. All I eat now is dolphin, Wahoo, tuna, cobia and triggers.

Here in Indiana, the pickins aren't as good.
We don't have trout... and most of the stuff I don't much care for.
Can't really hit much perch or anything unless you go further north either.
So I've resigned myself to catfish and crappy for the most part... and bluegill. All are VERY good slapped in a bit of corn meal and deep fried.
MAN it's good stuff

I wouldn't say that's resigned to something horrible...  love a good crappie fish fry.

"Crappy" is the running joke with everyone I know... and pronounced accordingly.
Not sure why though, they are very good, just generally small and it takes a lot of them to make a meal, not unlike bluegill.

I could eat fresh-water fish for every meal.
I could eat saltwater fish at every meal.

I like all that stuff.  Smoked fish... excellent.

Nothing beats a spear-gun, but they're illegal in Ohio for some reason.  You can still spear carp by-hand though.

Oddly enough I've never tried eating crappie/sunnies/bluegill but I think I'm going to give it a try. I lived most of my life on the Jersey Shore and so seafood usually. Now a 100 or so miles from the beach but fresh seafood is always available here. About the only freshwater fish I eat are trout and catfish.

I go bass fishing, but it's all catch and release even when I've caught the occasional channel cat or crappie while bass fishing.

I like fresh fish deep fried, but since my wife doesn't eat any fish, it's not worth the hassle of cleaning and cooking them for myself.

Northern Pike' s not to shabby after the "Y" bone removed. Fry it up and stick it on a burger bun for a fish sammich.

Lutefisk is the the only fish that is normally boiled. Trusts me, it's an acquired taste.

Northerns aren't as common as Walleye are. Walleye get their own festival at a small town near here. http://www.lakeshelbyville.com/events/walleye.htm

The big draw is Walleye sandwiches.

Sir, you can't go wrong with crappie.  It's practically the bacon of fish.
