American Red Cross responds to criticism

Quote
HOUSTON - The American Red Cross is fighting a PR storm while responding to the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The organization says false rumors take away from its true mission.

Right now, there are more than 3,400 Red Cross volunteers on the ground in the Houston area.

The Red Cross is not a trustworthy organization.

What the World Knew: How the Red Cross Failed Europe's Jews & American POW's

Quote
In the 1990's, after decades of trying to conceal its failures during World War II and the Holocaust, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) finally opened its archives and allowed researchers access to documents illustrating the organization's shortcomings.

The Red Cross was a crucial source of information about the treatment of civilians and POW's in Europe during the war; however, the "eyes" of the Western world in German-occupied territory often proved myopic. Abuses went unreported or were minimized. Whereas the U.S. government has maintained that it did not know what was happening and thus could not act, the Red Cross' position was that it could not act even about incidents of which it was aware.

Red Cross and Vatican helped thousands of Nazis to escape

The Red Cross and the Vatican both helped thousands of Nazi war criminals and collaborators to escape after the second world war, according to a book that pulls together evidence from unpublished documents.

The Red Cross has previously acknowledged that its efforts to help refugees were used by Nazis because administrators were overwhelmed, but the research suggests the numbers were much higher than thought.

It didn't help the Red Cross's standing when they came out during Harvey and said they needed more cash donations and fewer goods to be donated.

All the local organizations here were asking for goods or cash, but were happy to get either one.

Red Cross Volunteers Stay In High-End Houston Hotel

A new report reveals some of the Red Cross’s millions-of-dollars in donations for Hurricane Harvey went to housing staff in one of Houston’s most high end hotels.

Monday’s revelations are just the latest in a string of claims accusing the non-profit of mismanaging its funds.

One city councilman in Houston, who also survived Hurricane Katrina, urged people not to donate to the organization.

This where the money goes when one donates to the Red Cross.
