That may be true of the general neighborhood, but not that specific corner, :-) . Unless it's been closed down (though I did refresh my memory with a look at Google Maps).

The SR 202 and 51 freeways didn't exist when I lived at 32nd St. and Roosevelt and at 24th St. and Portland. The apartment group on Roosevelt looks like it's still there. OTOH the duplex on 24th St. looks like it's been demolished, and the Lutheran church that was just down Portland from the corner now looks unused. 4+ decades bring change.
