The other side of this coin is that the violent tactics of the Antifoids and BAMNs are alienating them from normal people. DU-grade Progs who approve of those tactics are bringing that same public disrepute on their heads.
The ignorance of actual history, as opposed to the morally- and factually-simplistic version presented by the repetitive documentary producers of cable content, feeds this stupidity.
In real history, the Nazi enmity toward the Jews only came out once they had tipped the balance and actually gained power, they did not get to the top of the German political food chain on that ticket. What DID get them there was the excesses of the Communists and Socialists.
In the aftermath of the Kaiser's abdication, Marxists declared Red republics in several important urban centers, and proceeded to behave about like the French Directorate of Public Safety a century-and-change earlier. This resulted in a virtual civil war for about a year, which was viewed as just general chaos in the West and so left to work itself out, which ended with the suppression of the Reds by militias of World War veterans (Since the tiny government force allowed under the Treaty was hopelessly unable to meet the task), accompanied by economic collapse due to both the lingering effects of the War and the Treaty burdens.
This had several effects. One was the show how bad the Reds were if ever allowed to get their hands on the trigger (Or gallows trip lever) again. Another was to legitimize radical popular action to resolve radical problems. And still another was to make a lot of the large veteran community go Right. And the economic disaster inflicted by the vengeful Allies destroyed any desire that might have existed for reconciliation. It also disinclined them to look westward for help, inspiration, or ideas.
After a very delayed start, the German economy recovered to a great degree and led to a mid-20s boom, years behind the rest of Western Europe. Any hope of this being a new beginning disappeared when worldwide economic collapse hit, starting with the Crash of 1929 and accelerating as cascading international effects made themselves evident. The Reds, with some outside instigation from Stalin, became resurgent, seeing a chance to score one for International Communism. Remembrance of the Red 1919 excesses, and the re-appearance of Red armed militias and street gangs in such desperate times, was what fueled the Nazi rise to power, along with a positive economic message of their own. To a large percentage (Never an actual majority) of German voters, they were seen as being the lesser of two evils, and the best available vehicle to fight the Reds. Their genocidal intentions had not become evident at that point, and really had not been even fully formulated. To the extent their ill racial intent was noted, the public at large thought in terms of forced relocation because a large amount of that had already occurred in the wake of the Great War, for instance in the collapse of Imperial Russia and the Austro-Hungarian Empire's fragmentation.
Two terrorist acts by the Left - the assassination of the German ambassador in Paris and the Reichstag fire- and Hindenburg's declining health, happened to coincide to present Hitler with a golden opportunity. The Emergency Statutes were enacted because of the terrorism (In the same way the Patriot Act would likely never have seen the light of day but for 9/11), and Hitler having demanded and reluctantly been given his Chancellorship from the rapidly-fading Hindenburg, circumstances combined to put Hitler in a unique position to seize complete control, which he did. Nazi electoral fortunes had actually hit their high tide and were beginning to ebb when these conditions fortuitously (For Hitler) all happened to fall together and present him with the opportunity, which he of course took.
Bottom line, the Nazis rose to power on the activism of the Reds, it was only after they seized control and did away with elections that they showed their true colors. The American Nazis, Aryan nutjobs, etc., have no chance of being elected to power, their colors are on display for all to see from Jump Street. The Reds have always been murderous assholes but there is a blindness to their threat in America since there are so many self-styled Marxists in our higher education system. If real Marxists ever got in power, they'd be the first ones sent to the labor camps because the last thing a Commie leader wants is intellectuals second-guessing his doctrine and chiding him about it. In the 20th Century, Marxist 'Re-education,' 'Relocation,' and 'Suppression of Class Privilege' killed several times the number of people the Nazis did, they just didn't overtly base it on any BS racial theory.
