Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s top information technology (IT) aide was arrested attempting to leave the country just a few hours after The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Investigative Group revealed that he is the target of an FBI investigation.

The employee, Imran Awan, had wired $283,000 from the Congressional Federal Credit Union in a House office building to two individuals in Pakistan. Credit union officials permitted the wire to go through, and his wife has already fled the country to Pakistan, after police confronted her at the airport and found $12,000 in cash hidden in her suitcase but did not stop her from boarding.

FBI Investigating Smashed Hard Drives Retrieved from Wasserman Schultz’s Pakistani-Born IT Worker’s Home

The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) is reportedly investigating several smashed hard drives seized from the home of two Pakistan-born brothers who worked as IT workers for former DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL).

“The suspects in this probe are people who worked for a long time for Democratic members in the House,” Daily Caller investigative reporter Luke Rosiak reportedly told FOX Business Network. “Brothers named Imran Awan, Abid Awan and Jamal Awan and they are criminal suspects,” Rosiak said. “Imran worked for Debbie Wasserman Schultz for a long time.”

Shortly after the laptop was seized, Wasserman Schultz reportedly threatened Capitol Police with “consequences” if they did not return equipment that she said belonged to her and was being used to Imran Awan.

Awan had reportedly managed to bankroll $4 million for himself and several of his relatives since 2010.

“They recycled cabinets and lined them along the walls. They left in a huge hurry,” he continued. “It looks like government-issued equipment. We turned that stuff over.”

Imran Awan and his family then reportedly began trying to terrorize the Marine veteran and his Navy officer wife into returning the equipment, calling them repeatedly, arriving at the home three or four times, and threatening to sue if the equipment was not returned. Instead, the family turned the material over to the FBI.

Wasserman Schultz, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee, fired IT staffer Imran Awan on Tuesday, the night after he was arrested at Dulles Airport in Virginia trying to leave the country. Federal agents charged Awan with bank fraud, the result of a months-long investigation.

And why is the Congressional committee so curious?

Despite Awan being stripped of his House IT access and under investigation since February, Wasserman Schultz kept him on her payroll. The Florida Democrat later demanded the Capitol Hill police return a laptop pertinent to the investigation, threatening “consequences” if they did not.

EXCELLENT: Congressional Investigation Into Wasserman Schultz IT Scandal Moves Forward



The investigation into the IT aides that worked for corrupt Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz appears to be headed in a forward direction as Congress is now getting involved.

The Washington Free Beacon reported:

Congress is advancing an investigation into a growing scandal surrounding IT staffers working for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.), who are accused of stealing sensitive computer equipment from House lawmakers’ offices, according to senior congressional sources who told the Washington Free Beacon the Democratic leader’s refusal to answer questions could “merit resignation.”

Congressional leaders have now requested a formal briefing by Capitol Police into its investigation of several Pakistani House IT staffers who are accused of stealing sensitive computer equipment and of illegally penetrating congressional networks.

Imran Awan, one of the staffers who worked for Wasserman Schultz and several other Democratic members of Congress, was arrested this week when trying to travel to Pakistan and charged with bank fraud after a months-long investigation that found he wired nearly $300,000 to that country. Several other staffers tied to Awan are the focus of an investigation into claims they stole sensitive equipment and illegally penetrated the House IT network.

Leading members of Congress are growing frustrated with the pace of the criminal investigation and have moved to conduct their own independent probe into the scandal, according to multiple sources who indicated that the relevant congressional committees are making moves to start an investigation, which could include compelling testimony from Wasserman Schultz, who has been accused of stonewalling on the issue.
