Trump Rips AG Sessions Again: ‘Very Weak Position on Hillary Clinton Crimes’

President Donald Trump again criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday, after he recused himself from the ongoing Russia investigation.

“So where is the investigation A.G.” Trump wrote on Twitter after noting reports that Democrats worked with Ukrainians to help sabotage his presidential campaign.

Trump also criticized Sessions for taking “a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes” failing to investigate his former opponent’s deleted emails and the reportedly “hacked” DNC server. He also urged his attorney general to investigate the leaks of national intelligence.

The president also questioned Sessions failure to investigate Clinton’s ties to Russia, in a Twitter message on Monday.

Why aren’t the Committees and investigators, and of course our beleaguered A.G., looking into Crooked Hillarys crimes & Russia relations?” he asked.

Trump and his team are discussing the option of replacing Sessions and ending Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, according to the Washington Post and the Associated Press.

The president’s decision to undermine Sessions suggests that he wants the attorney general to resign. His attacks against his attorney general, one of Trump’s earliest and most influential supporters, has worried prominent conservatives.

“It’s also kind of, you know, a little bit discomforting, unseemly for Trump to go after such a loyal supporter this way,” talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said on Monday. “Especially when Sessions made it obvious he’s not gonna resign.”

Speaking to reporters, White House director of communications admitted that it was likely that Trump wanted Sessions to resign.

“They need to either get together or separate,” he said.

Trump leaves Sessions twisting in the wind while berating him publicly

By Sari Horwitz, Matt Zapotosky and Robert Costa July 24

President Trump and his advisers are privately discussing the possibility of replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and some confidants are floating prospects who could take his place were he to resign or be fired, according to people familiar with the talks.

Members of Trump’s circle, including White House officials, have increasingly raised the question among themselves in recent days as the president has continued to vent his frustration with the attorney general, the people said.

The president took another swipe at Sessions on Monday, calling his attorney general “our beleaguered A.G.” and asking why Sessions was not “looking into Crooked Hillary’s crimes & Russia relations?”

Both points are notable. Sessions was once considered one of Trump’s closest advisers and enjoyed access few others had. Now he is left to endure regular public criticism by his boss.

It appears Shuck Chumer, Nancy Palsie, and Maxien Warthog had absolutely nothing to fear from Jeff Sessions.

  • My Wife is awesome!
Well, he could do a lot to improve his standing by directing the FBI to start going after those who leak classified info for criminal offenses. Clinton Foundation pay-for-play could be a good one too...

SESSIONS UNDER FIRE: Trump takes aim at AG for 'weak' position on Clinton, reportedly weighs firing

President Trump took his criticism of Jeff Sessions to a new level Tuesday morning, describing his stance on Hillary Clinton's alleged misdeeds as “VERY weak” -- amid reports the president has spoken with advisers about the possibility of firing the attorney general.

The president unleashed a battery of tweets berating Sessions for the absence of an investigation into Clinton’s connections to Ukraine and Russia.

“Ukrainian efforts to sabotage Trump campaign – 'quietly working to boost Clinton.' So where is the investigation A.G.," he began, tweeting at Fox News' Sean Hannity.

Moments later, he added: “Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!”

After Trump's public rebuke last week, Sessions seemed determined to keep doing the job he said "goes beyond anything that I would have ever imagined for myself."

"I'm totally confident that we can continue to run this office in an effective way," Sessions said last week.

White House issues new Sessions warning as Trump tears into AG

The top White House spokesperson warned Tuesday that President Trump’s frustration with Jeff Sessions is not going away, moments after the president tore into his attorney general on Twitter as “VERY weak” on Hillary Clinton’s supposed “crimes.”

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, speaking with “Fox & Friends,” also neither confirmed nor denied reports that Trump has discussed the possibility of firing Sessions and did not rule it out. She said she hasn’t been part “of any conversations discussing any potential replacements,” but made clear that Trump is “frustrated and disappointed” in the attorney general for recusing himself from the Russia meddling probe.

“That frustration certainly hasn’t gone away, and I don’t think it will,” Sanders said.

As for whether Trump wants Sessions out, she said, “That’s a decision that if the president wants to make, he certainly will.”

She also addressed rumors about former federal prosecutor and ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani being considered for the job. She said Giuliani is someone Trump “respects” but, "Right now, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is the attorney general."

Trump messes with Sessions, and Senate Republicans are not pleased

July 25, 2017

WASHINGTON

President Donald Trump is getting a bitter Washington lesson when he messes with Jeff Sessions – you don't pick a fight with one of the Senate's guys.

Trump is reportedly weighing possible replacements for Sessions, The Washington Post reported late Monday.

So why aren't the Committees and investigators, and of course our beleaguered A.G., looking into Crooked Hillarys crimes & Russia relations?
    — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 24, 2017

Such a move would infuriate Republicans, who control 52 of the Senate’s 100 seats. Many GOP senators reacted in classic Senate fashion to the treatment of Sessions. They were not visibly angry but clearly annoyed and often upset. And with what could be construed as a few veiled warnings to be careful.

Sessions is under scrutiny far beyond Trump. The Washington Post reported Friday that intercepted U.S. intelligence reports show Sessions discussed Trump campaign matters with former Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, contrary to what he has said publicly.

The judiciary committee’s top Democrat on Monday called for Sessions to appear before the panel, saying the reported conversations would be "directly contrary" to Sessions’ testimony at his confirmation hearing.

Sessions wrote a letter to the committee in March saying he didn’t recall any discussions with the Russian ambassador or other Russian government operatives "regarding the political campaign." He has said all his talks were Senate-related.

President Trump’s decision Tuesday to attack Attorney General Jeff Sessions over Sessions’ “position” on Hillary Clinton’s various scandals only serves to highlight Trump’s own hypocrisy on the issue — and is likely to fuel concerns from his base who see Sessions at the best hope to fulfill Trump’s immigration policies.
