how does
« on: October 06, 2015, 05:34:19 AM »
I am starting to get really ticked off.

This is what all documents in my Word program look like:

Apparently some hours ago I accidentally clicked something that made all the good stuff--the toolbar that overhangs the document--evaporate.

I've done this and that, I've consulted Windows help, Word help, and there's not a damned thing about how one "restores" that handy-dandy toolbar that's usually at the top of the page.

Help.

Word is as important to me as is getting on the internet.  I really need my toolbar.

This is what it used to be like, all the time, and is the way I wanted it.

At present, I can get all that handy stuff that overhangs the document only by doing a bunch of Mickey Mouse stuff, and for each item individually, which slows things down considerably.

I'd like to have that stay up there permanently, like it used to.

But Microsoft help and Word help haven't been a damned bit of help.

What version of Word are you using?

I knew that question would come up, but at first couldn't find it.

I guess it's Word 2013?

That just took me to "help."

Besides "help," I've tried "search" for how to pin the task bar to the top, as it had originally been, and like "help," "search" doesn't tell me a damned thing.

I'd like to know what I did, to cause the templates to come out this new way, so that I don't do it again.  Word seems really sensitive, and alas I've deleted full documents simply by being a millisecond too quick on the draw.

Usually there's a little icon of a "pin" somewhere that one can use, to keep something permanently on the screen.

In this case, there's no little icon of a "pin."  Nowhere.

Turn Off Full Screen Mode

Full screen mode displays as much of your document on the screen as possible. In this mode, Word removes screen elements like the menu bar, toolbars, and scroll bars. To restore your toolbars and menus, turn off full screen mode.
If a document is open, do one of the following:
Press ALT+V to display the View menu, and then press U to turn off full screen mode.
If the Full Screen toolbar is visible, click Close Full Screen.
If a document is not open, follow these steps:
Press CTRL+N to start a new document.
Press ALT+V to display the View menu, and then press U to turn off full screen mode.
Quit and restart Word. If Word starts correctly, you have resolved the issue. The issue is that Word was closed when full screen mode was active, and Word retained that setting.

I just looked up "how to restore toolbar in Word 2013", or something similar to that.

I didn't use the exact same phrase, but something like it, and got.....nothing.

But anyway, again, I gotta thankyouthankyouthankyou.  I need Word, and I need Word operating in the best possible manner (i.e., with the toolbar visible 100% of the time).  I kiss your feet, sir.

I've had enough computer problems and had to Google for answers, that I've learned that using different search terms and even the phrasing matters.
