Do You Have This Problem? (Food)
« on: July 28, 2015, 03:46:51 AM »
We're old my bh and I.
Are you like us?

Over the years, have you come to the reality that you've dined on every type of food, in every possible combination that exists?

Have you grown bored with the repetitiveness and can't think of any alternatives?
You name it, we've eaten it!
Diced, chopped, boiled, fried, filleted, burnt .. we've done it all!

It's come to the point that intravenous sustenance is looking better and better.
Just go about your business while the 'drip' takes care of the boring task of eating!
(Hey ... No dishes to clean up afterwards!)

Seriously folks, when you get old, even Ruth Christs might as well be McDonald's for all the interest that your next meal holds for you!

Suggestions will be much appreciated.
(But only those that are not x rated!)

You may try recipes or spices from other countries, which you haven't tried before.

I still like a good steak, but most of the time, I don't care what my wife decides to fix as long as it's filling.

I think that is why most chain restaurants are adding hot sauce and lots of pepper to their food.

Problem for me, hot sauce and too much pepper gives me heart burn.  :(

What ever the meal, bacon is still my favorite....."pick-me-up".  Burger King with lots of bacon still does it for me. :-)

Try matching wine to your meals or beer. Always makes for a more interesting meal.
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Interestingly, eating has become almost completely unimportant to me the last few years.  I have been in NYC, Chicago and other good food places and just microwave stuff -- sometimes I go 2 days or so without eating.  I am still chubby though (probably I should do some exercise).

The smell of food tends to make me nauseous, especially at work.

Even exotic flavors which I used to like don't do much for me. BBQ and the like taste good but I get full after a few bites and I lose interest almost immediately.  I buy interesting looking things at the store and never get around to eating them -- they go bad or I leave them behind when I change locations.

This has been true for the last few years so it isn't mood-based.  Food just doesn't matter except as a means of survival.

Try this on for size:

Heat up a grilled cheese-suitable skillet

Making sure the outsides of the bread are buttered, fill with:

peanut butter
sliced banana
bacon
honey
sriracha sauce

Seriously.  :yum:

I've lost quite a bit of weight recently (over about 18 months) as my choices and quantity of food are very limited ever since I passed over the threshold of 50 and have HBP, etc. No dairy (lactose intolerant), no hot spicy stuff, no or very low sodium (no bacon  :panic:!!!), very limited carbs (my own choice) and, actually, no real interest in food.

Oh well . . .

I am to the point in my life where I haven't necessarily tasted every food there is to taste, but what I have I am either bored with or resent.
If I eat a food, and it's not delicious, I immediately regret it.
Then I get angry for eating it with the thought I would have been better off, and lighter without having eaten it.
I need to pay more attention to nadin's cousin coach franksolich.
He keeps us caver apprised of the most unappealing looking and sounding food from the primitives, progladytes and DUmmies.
Just looking at and reading about that food is enough to repel me from the thought of it.

I find this humorous and slightly morbid, but I enjoy my own cooking and can eat the same thing for days at a time.  The problem with "finding" new food is you usually have to go looking for it or find someone else to prepare it for you.

How do you feel about the Food Network or Travel Channel?  Half of the Travel Channel's programming is places to eat.

That's just it.
"Good" isn't even good enough anymore.
If it isn't delicious I end up not wanting it...retroactively.

As for the travel channel, I don't know how those guys travel the world eating every food in sight and not become formers of their shadow selves.

As an old fart, I love to cook and eat out. In my dad's old age, I would ask him what he wanted for his birthday or xmas. His reply was "just bring me something good to  eat". We are both seafood lovers.

The beauty of living in Cajun country is that your food choices are only limited by  your imagination.

Altho I prepare the same basic dishes, i tend to make subtle changes to the recipe, which produces a different flavor almost every time.

It's almost like not ever eating the same thing twice.      :-)

I haven't been to TB in a long time.  I probably go there 3-4 times a year.

I'm glad you finally found something that works for you.
